4-star QB to throw for Texas Thursday at Elite Camp Steve Sarkisian and A.J. Milwee will watch one of the top 2027 quarterback prospects throw in person Thursday at Elite Camp. Palestine (Texas) Westwood two-sport star Kavian Bryant is scheduled to compete for a Texas offer later this week. OnTexasFootball spoke with a source very close to the 6-foot-2.5, 185-pounder this morning, and Bryant turned down the same invite to LSU to throw in person at Texas. Portal recruiting is moving at full speed for Jim Schlossnagle and his staff, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The Longhorns hosted three visitors over the weekend. While I can't put out one of those names, two that did visit include a pair of prospects from Virginia. OF Henry Ford and INF Eric Becker both took in a visit to the Forty Acres later in the weekend and, as of last night, were still on campus. The big question for this duo is if they'll follow Brian O'Connor to Mississippi State or not. -- As for the other visitor, they arrived on Friday night. I'm told that visit went very well. What do we make of this sudden rash of commitments in the month of June? It’s very unSarkisian-like. In one way, it’s clear that Texas is a hot school; more recruits are wanting to jump on board earlier rather than later. Yet the string of commitments (five in three days) also strays somewhat from the formula which has brought Sark and Texas so much success of late. Sark has routinely pushed key recruitments well into the football season instead of deciding them in the summer. Perhaps the uncertainty of the House Settlement is playing a role in this. Predictions and Expectations for the 2025 Freshman Class The No. 1 ranked class in the country is a little over five weeks away from the start of their careers in Austin, Texas. I was invited to attend a basketball beat writer’s roundtable with Texas men’s coach Sean Miller on Wednesday. The on-the-record lasted roughly an hour and covered several topics. In the name of keeping this entry as concise as possible, I’m focusing on the 2025-26 roster, including Miller’s thoughts on transfer portal additions who are new to the Longhorns. — Tramon Mark and center Lassina Traore have been cleared for non-contact activities, but the staff is taking things slow with the two veterans. The first scrimmage of fall camp gets going here in the next couple of hours. Scrimmages last roughly two hours. Under Sark, the team typically starts with special teams (punts and kickoffs) when they’re inside DKR like they will be this morning. Then they typically go 1s vs 2s to start things off before moving to 1s vs 1s and 2s vs 2s, each in multiple eight-play spurts. After that, it’s time for 1s vs 1s and 2s vs 2s. As part of that session, they focus on situational pieces, including red zone before closing with kicking. Again, that’s the “typical” order of operations for a Sark-led training camp scrimmage. What is the Texas football team up to today and tomorrow? Texas coaches are taking the team through an entire mock game weekend experience. The team will board a bus and head to a hotel today, they'll have team dinners, and team meetings tonight, just as if the Horns were in Columbus a week from now. The players will even room with the same guys who they will be rooming with next weekend. Then they'll wake up, get breakfast, have more meetings at the hotel and head to DKR to get ready for a mock game situation. I don’t want this fact to get lost, so I’m going to lead with it this morning. Chris Ogden, the Texas basketball GM, was Rick Barnes’ first high school recruit. Yesterday, his son, Bo, officially became the first high school recruit of Sean Miller’s tenure with his pledge to the Longhorns. The Texas blood clearly runs deep in the family. Hopefully the success of Miller’s era at Texas can exceed that of Barnes. After all, Bo is a better prospect than Chris ever was. In the last two days, two of the top defensive prospects on the West Coast have announced official visit dates to Texas in June. San Antonio (Texas) Alamo Heights ATH Michael Terry III tells OnTexasFootball he has locked in an official visit to Texas. Terry, 6-2.5 and 218 pounds, will make his OV to Texas June 7-9. Some notes from Thursdays practice and a little more: ** All off-season we were told that Texas was planning on utilizing Cole Hutson and Neto Umeozulu more during games, not strictly relying on a five-man OL rotation like the Horns did most of 2023. I'm told that some of that rotation occurred on Thursday. The Horns are beginning to get the team and the offensive unit used to it. Hutson, at times, replaced DJ Campbell at right guard and Neto Umeozulu replaced Hayden Conner at left guard during the team session with the first unit on Thursday. Steve Sarkisian and staff are now in a position for some key recruitments to fall their way with the flip of Kade Phillips and Michael Fasusi have been trending away. It’s Monday. Usually by Monday after a game, I’ve emotionally and intellectually moved forward more in my week. What do I mean? Typically by Monday I’m still thinking some about the last game, but I’m also fully ready to move forward to the next one.
