In a roller coaster of a game, the Longhorns came from behind and beat Texas State 14-11 last night. First, I want to start with this... One thing to realize about mid-week games is that Texas doesn't approach them the same way they do weekend series. At all. In the grand scheme of things, they aren't anywhere near as important, they aren't going to hurt you a ton if you lose and obviously you want to rest your key guys as much as possible. What is the Texas football team up to today and tomorrow? Texas coaches are taking the team through an entire mock game weekend experience. The team will board a bus and head to a hotel today, they'll have team dinners, and team meetings tonight, just as if the Horns were in Columbus a week from now. The players will even room with the same guys who they will be rooming with next weekend. Then they'll wake up, get breakfast, have more meetings at the hotel and head to DKR to get ready for a mock game situation. Texas wide receiver Ryan Wingo underwent LASIK surgery on his right eye last week and also underwent another procedure designed to help a scratch in his left eye. It's believed that the sight issue became evident in practice midway through his freshman season. The sophomore-to-be expects a full recovery and he should have 20-15 vision in his right eye moving forward. It's thought that the procedure should help him with 50-50 balls this season. Texas is back on the board! The Longhorns land a commitment from elite 2025 WR Kaliq Lockett (Sachse, TX) over Texas A&M, Alabama, Florida State and LSU. The 6-foot-2-inch wide receiver becomes the first wide receiver in the 2025 class and continues the trend of Texas having success in the DFW area. 4-star LSU commit in Austin until Sunday OnTexasFootball reported Saturday morning that 4-star offensive tackle Brysten Martinez (Gonzales, La./East Ascension) was a "maybe" to visit Texas for the Vanderbilt game. OTF can now report that not only did the 6-foot-6, 305-pounder make it to Austin for the game, but he will remain in Austin and on campus through Sunday afternoon. Texas offered Martinez May 1, 2024 after a Kyle Flood visit and in person evaluation. At the time, the Longhorns worked to get him on campus. I'm told that Steve Sarkisian is expected to add long-time college recruiting coordinator and professional scout Bill Rees to his football staff. The exact role Rees will have with the team is unclear. Sarkisian re-tooled his off-field support staff this off-season following the departure of former GM Billy Glasscock to Ole Miss. Sarkisian elevated Brandon Harris to GM, John Michael Jones to Director of Player Personnel, Taylor Searels to Director of Recruiting and Kyndal Perry to Director of Recruiting Operations. I'm hearing that the visit of Stanford receiver Emmett Mosley V has gone really well. Texas has put themselves in a good position to land him. But another team is still hanging around, and that's USC. Emmett's younger brother Trey is committed to the Trojans, and Emmett attended high school at Santa Margarita Catholic in Southern California.
