  1. Will Texas get in the NCAA Tournament? That's the question that now has to be answered after the loss to Chris Beard's Ole Miss team tonight. There's a lot of people that will say no. Some people that say yes. And a few that say they may not necessarily deserve to get in, but likely could or will due to circumstance. OTF takes a look at both sides of the coin. Starting with the why Texas may still be in the "First Four" game ... This has nothing to do with what any of us think, in terms of if Texas should be in. I could go either way on that, but I'm a hoops watching junkie and see others on the bubble on the struggle bus late too. Texas is as deserv…

  4. Texas Hoops: Size everywhere, more portal additions to come For years Texas fans have clamored for a roster with true bigs and size across the board. Well, Sean Miller is already proving he is your guy in that regard. The three portal additions so far are a 6-foot-8 wing/F that will be an NBA draft pick when he leaves Texas, a 7-foot center that will very likely be an NBA prospect after two years in Austin and a very athletic 6-foot-7 wing/F that shoots it from three at 39%. And there will be two more portal additions to the roster, with one being another big man. The current Texas roster now features five players that stand 6-foot-8 or more, with another…

  5. Started by Bobby Burton,

Part of me remains in shock this morning, surprised by the QB play we all witnessed Saturday afternoon. I did not see it coming, not this level of struggle. It reached a level of complete ineptness. There were 10 straight incompletions, some that were true misfires, others that were ill-timed, rushed and three or four yards off the mark, one where he didn’t see what should have been his very first read for a first down on a fourth-down play in the red zone and another fourth down play to a wide open Parker Livingston downfield. The performance left me with so many questions Is Sark not helping him out enough with play-calling? Are the offensive l…

  6. Started by Bobby Burton,

We witnessed something yesterday that I’m not sure everyone will fully appreciate until maybe later this year, or even into the off-season and beyond. We saw Arch Manning grow up. In a game against a quality opponent and rival, he got rid of the ball instead of taking sacks. He took what the defense gave him. He moved in the pocket. He ran effectively. He wasn’t lured into taking multiple deep shots. Instead, he calmly engineered three straight 10-plus play drives against the nation’s top-ranked defense, converting both the easy plays and the difficult ones, all while never putting the ball in harm’s way. In the fourth quarter, with the game on the lin…

  7. Friday AM Update: Texas basketball and Rodney Terry The Texas basketball staff is business as usual, as of late last night. The staff is scheduled to have meetings this morning with portal recruiting and high school recruiting the No. 1 topic. Obviously, everyone and anyone around the program knows and understands what is going on. The Longhorns are currently in the final two for 5-star power forward Koa Peat (Gilbert, Az./Perry) along with Arizona State. The decision is considered a toss up right now. He is the younger brother of NFL offensive tackle Andrus Peat. Andrus Peat chose Stanford over Texas, USC and others coming out of high school as a 5-star …

  9. Today, the rest of college sports is finding out what Texas fans already knew. Texas Tech is a joke. It’s leadership, it’s moral compass. Anything and everything about the school and how it conducts itself is awash in the putrid smell of the vomit emanating via the gall of its biggest donor. Texas Tech backed its quarterback who bet on his own team and who earlier today received an injunction from a court that will make him eligible to play this season. It’s an outrageous outcome that is only eclipsed by the outrageous response of its mega-donor and chairman of the board, Cody Campbell. “This unfortunate situation is the outcome of a broken system…

  10. Hoops: Texas vs. Arkansas Game Thread Rivalry game in Austin tonight with plenty of meaning. Texas (15-7, 4-5) plays host to Arkansas (13-8, 2-6) in a game that has become very meaningful for the Longhorns after winning three of the last four. The Horns are now a win tonight from squaring the SEC record at 5-5, and continuing to build an NCAA Tournament resume that currently has Texas at No. 25 in NCAA NET with three Quad 1 wins in conference play. Arkansas is coming off an 89-79 win at Kentucky over the weekend. The game ... Time: 8pm CST TV: ESPN2 Texas remaining schedule and NCAA NET ... Feb. 5 - Arkansas (Quad 2) Feb. 8 - at Van…

  11. Ezavier Crowell announcement thread OTF 4-star++ running back Ezavier Crowell (Jackson, Ala./High) is set to announce his commitment at around 6pm CST today. This one is expected to be Alabama or Texas, with Auburn and Georgia rounding out the four in contention. Steve Sarkisian is personally in this recruitment, and Texas is giving it everything they have. If Crowell picks Alabama, it will be besting a completely all in effort by the Longhorns. Alabama has been considered the favorite since the spring. CJ provided a great rundown of the timeline yesterday: Schools in Contention for the four-star running back include: Georgia (May 30 O…

  12. As we head down the homestretch of these two recruitments, there has been some movement. While top-rated tackle John Turntine looks more and more likely to choose the Longhorns tomorrow, the same can not be said for Mansfield Lake Ridge lineman Felix Ojo. Ojo, who has visited Texas, Ohio State, Texas Tech, Florida, Ole Miss and Utah, is expected to announce his decision tomorrow at 1pm. Ojo is telling some that his decision is expected to come down to Ohio State and Texas. However, Texas Tech is considered very much in the mix. According to two different sources, the Red Raiders have put the largest NIL deal on the table for Ojo. Ojo has the same agent…

  13. College Football Playoff Ranking Thread: Tonight at 6pm CT The latest College Football Playoff ranking following week 14 games will be released at 6 p.m. CT tonight. While the Longhorns are not expected to move up enough to get an at large spot, moving up to 12 or 13 will at least make it interesting for Conference Championship Game weekend. There are two real questions I believe the committee has to answer tonight, outside of any thoughts on Texas. 1. Should Ole Miss be in the CFP after losing Lane Kiffin and the majority of the offensive staff. The Rebels are clearly not close to the same threat in the CFP today. 2. How does the committee articulat…

  14. Portal Kombat: Texas leads for Toppin? The Texas Longhorns remain in search of one more big out of the portal to complete the 2024-25 front court and roster. And the top target on the board remains very much in play for the Horns. OnTexasFootball brings the latest on the portal recruiting front. The top target New Mexico freshman 6-9 forward JT Toppin is considered a Texas lean over Texas Tech and a couple of others as of Friday morning. OTF does not consider this a done deal for the Horns, to be clear. Texas has a very good feel for this recruitment, and remains in the pole position despite Texas Tech swinging big. Toppin averaged 12.4 points …

  15. Notes: - Yale OL Mike Bennett has concluded his visit. He is expected to visit Oregon and Indiana. Texas is very interested. - LB Rasheem Biles and RB Hollywood Smothers remain on their trips to Austin. - DB Edwin Joseph, who visited Texas earlier this week, has committed to Ole Miss. As we’ve said, Texas is really focused on the front seven on defense currently. That’s not an excuse for missing on Joseph or anyone else, but it is indicative of the overall thought process and resource allocation. - WR Cam Coleman is expected to stay on his visit in Tuscaloosa to watch Alabama vs Texas in basketball today. 16. Started by Bobby Burton,

Texas and defensive end Zina Umeozulu came to an agreement late yesterday. Zina is expected to remove his name from the portal and return to the Longhorns. However... It should be noted that nothing is final until it is actually final. In other words, until the ink is dry, I'm not trusting anything these days. And that is not a concern specific to Zina either. It's about the nature of the transfer portal as a whole. This is the Wild West, welcome to the show! ** Speaking of the Wild West, I spoke to one source yesterday who said to expect at least another 1,000 players nationwide to enter the portal between now and Jan. 16. "It's not don…

  17. Justus Terry Announcement Thread Manchester (Ga.) High 5-star defensive lineman Justus Terry will announce his decision at 12 pm eastern today. Terry, 6-5, 275-pounds, is down to four schools. The four are home-state Georgia, Auburn, Texas and Alabama. As of Wednesday, the Crimson Tide were not expecting it to be them. That leaves Georgia, Auburn and Texas. One parent is okay with a farther from home decision (Texas), and one parent likes the close driving distance options. Georgia has been considered the favorite, but Texas does believe they are in the fight. Auburn the same. NIL is a major factor here. But the highest NIL bid doesn't necessa…

  18. Started by Bobby Burton,

There’s a lot to digest from last night. - We could spend all day dissecting what went wrong in pass protection for the Horns. - The Longhorn offensive line was clearly overwhelmed way too often. - Yet Quinn Ewers did his teammates no favors. In the face of a legit pass rush, Ewers folded as easily as a piece of paper in a book. - He repeatedly bailed backwards instead of stepping into the pocket. In doing so, Ewers gave the Georgia pass rushers an even larger target. Georgia could use the wide pass rush and therefore make the Texas OTs protect more space. The Georgia DL did NOT need more space to operate. That space also gave Georgia ed…

  24. Started by Bobby Burton,

The college football gods did not smile on Texas yesterday. In fact only one team that ranked ahead of the Longhorns lost this weekend. Texas really needed two teams to lose - just about any two teams. Yet like much of the season, while OU’s offense was stuck in mud for an entire game, its defense saved the day long enough for its opponent to bust a couple of coverages. Alabama was equally unimpressive against Auburn. The Crimson Tide just aren’t very good in any aspect if you ask me. Vanderbilt trounced an overrated Tennessee squad. Then there are the teams outside the conference. For style points, Miami threw a bomb on Pitt in the 4th quart…

  25. BOOM: All-WCC 1st team CG Mikey Lewis commits to Texas Sean Miller and staff have done it again. Texas went into the week with the No. 2 ranked portal class, and a consensus preseason top 10 team ranking following the work in the portal. Well, the class and 2026-27 team got better again Thursday. St. Mary’s transfer starting combo guard Mikey Lewis announced he has committed to the Texas Longhorns after making visits to Vanderbilt, Oregon, Washington and Oklahoma. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound junior to be played two seasons at St. Mary’s, including starting all 33 games for the Gaels in 2025-26. Lewis was named All-West Coast Conference First Team …
