  1. Started by Bobby Burton,

Longhorn players must make an NFL decision by Jan. 15, which is this coming Wednesday. For this article, I am focused solely on the NFL decisions of those Longhorns with eligibility remaining. This is what we're hearing: - QB Quinn Ewers - as we've said all along, Quinn's plan is to declare for the NFL draft. - RB Jaydon Blue - conjecture has been all over the place; from returning to Texas, to entering the draft, to entering the portal. His value to Texas has increased of late. Sark needs touchdown scorers and Blue has been deadly in the passing game (scoring TDs against A&M, Clemson and Ohio State). - WR Matthew Golden - despite some efforts…

  3. NFL mock drafts 2027: Is Texas talent overrated or underrated? One of the main things said and written leading up to the 2026 season is Texas is the "most talented roster" in college football this season. Another is Texas is a National Champion favorite in big part because of the talent level in the program, even though the most NFL talented team didn't win the National Championship last year. Reality is Indiana wasn't a top 4-5 most NFL talented roster last season. So throw all those articles out the window. It certainly provides Texas with as good of a chance as any, but it won't be the deciding factor. The margins are all very thin in these discussions…

  4. NFL Scout on Longhorns in 2026 & 2027 NFL Drafts OnTexasFootball spoke with an NFL Scout Monday night about the draft prospects in 2026 and 2027. While the Longhorns will likely have six to seven draft picks this spring, the 2027 draft is setting up to be a potential all-timer for the program. The scout I spoke with sees Texas a lot. He's a regional scout. While many would believe the scouts have detailed reports on any future NFL draft possibility for a program like Texas, that's not really the case. They build their list on a team/program for sure, but don't truly have detailed reports on guys they know aren't likely to enter a draft until their fina…

  5. NFL Stock: Up or down? The Texas Longhorns are in search of a National Championship in the college football playoff. That's the ultimate goal. For at least 18 Longhorns, their individual performance will also be magnified with the NFL scouts and representatives placing all eyes on the CFP. Headed into the CFP, there are a number of Texas players who have seen their stock rise thus far, a few that are seeing their stock drop for various reasons and a couple that have much not had much movement at all. These projections, are my opinion headed into the college football playoff. Stock up this season ... Matthew Golden, WR Projection: Mid-round N…

  6. NFL talent Texas will face this season The Texas Longhorns faced plenty of top NFL draft prospects throughout the 2024 season, including 10 first round draft picks in April of 2025. This season, Texas will face many a prospect that will be drafted in the 2026 and 2027 NFL drafts. OnTexasFootball takes a look to start the week with the college football season a month away. Ohio State Caleb Downs, S - lock to be a first rounder Sonny Styles, LB - appears on some first round mocks Carnell Tate, WR - appears on some first round mocks Max Klare, TE - third round mocks Jermaine Matthews, CB - third round mocks Davison Igbinosun, CB - fourt…

  7. Mel Kiper Jr. mocked the 2025 NFL Draft for the first time on Wednesday. Kiper’s mock draft had one Texas player in the first round with Kelvin Banks Jr. going No. 11 overall to the San Francisco 49ers. According to Kiper, Banks will be the second offensive lineman selected with the Chicago Bears taking Will Campbell of LSU at No. 10. It’s hard to imagine a unanimous All-American who won the Lombardi Award and the Outland Trophy, allowed only four sacks and 34 total pressures on 1,475 pass-blocking opportunities in his career and has 42 games of starting experience at a premium position lasting until pick No. 11. Nevertheless, I knew it was coming …

  10. Started by Bobby Burton,

New legislation in the state of Virginia allows state institutions to pay for the NIL of student athletes. However, that legislation is at odds with current NCAA rules, which do not allow universities to pay for a student-athlete's NIL. Are Virginia and Virginia Tech going to defy NCAA rules and still expect to play for NCAA championships? What effect will this have on other states, what effect will it have on other lawsuits as a whole? I am told that there have already been discussions in Belmont about the Virginia ruling today. The legislation is yet another assault on the facade of amateurism in the NCAA. View full news story

  11. Nine Reasons to Pump The Brakes Ahead of Camp *** Just as we went through on Monday with our ten reasons for optimism, I wanted to reverse course and tap the brakes on the Kool-Aid and hopium that were churning through the board on Monday. So, as a result, a few reasons I see currently to come back down to earth with expectations ahead of the season. *** 9. Size at Linebacker Some nit-picking to start, because I do believe in both linebackers Texas will trot out with its starting eleven, but I can't help but notice it will be a significantly smaller unit than previous seasons. Anthony Hill Jr., David Gbenda, Jaylan Ford and Brad Spence were …

  13. The No. 1 defensive tackle in the country, Justus Terry, will be visiting Texas for the Georgia game on October 19 he tells OTF. The Manchester, Georgia star had committed to USC in March, though decommitted towards the end of June. Terry is a five-star out of Manchester, Georgia which means another UGA-Texas battle could be on hand over the next few weeks. View full news story

  14. DENTON, Texas — The unanimous No. 1-ranked cornerback in the country, John Meredith III, put his talents on display at the Under Armour Dallas camp on Sunday before touching on his recruitment with reporters. “It’s doing really good, nothing’s changed, for real,” Meredith told OnTexasFootball. As for the Longhorns, it’s all hands on deck to try and land the North Crowley standout. “Things are mutual,” Meredith said of UT. “Still talking to Coach (Mark) Orphey. Same relationship. We know where things stand. He’s not faking me. He keeps it a buck with me.” Meredith added that new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp called him his first day back at Texa…

  15. No. 1 overall recruit and Ohio State EDGE commit DJ Jacobs remains a priority target for many, Texas included. The Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Trinity Catholic product unofficially visited the Forty Acres for the Texas-Texas A&M game last November before he ultimately landed on the Buckeyes. That’s not stopping schools from pursuing the 6-foot-5, 235-pounder. “I’m talking to Coach (LaAllan) Clark a lot,” Jacobs told OTF on Sunday night. Talking is one thing, but actually making visits elsewhere is another. That’s not something Jacobs is committing to at this point. “I haven’t planned anything yet to be honest,” Jacobs said of future trips. What keeps…

  16. No. 1 ranked class loading? : Yes, no or maybe Signing day is just eight days away, and Steve Sarkisian and staff are deep sea fishing. And that is putting it mildly. Texas currently has 24 commitments, and sitting inside the top 5 class rankings at No. 4. There are six prospects right now that OnTexasFootball is monitoring closely headed into signing day December 4. And any combination of winning three of the six would place Texas No. 2 in the class rankings, with a realistic shot at No. 1. In the latest edition of Yes, maybe or no; OTF believes Texas has three leans right now with two being significant leads. Yes Kellen Wiley, LB, Seffne…

The Longhorns open SEC football play as a 37.5 point favorite over the Bulldogs. The O/U sits at 59.5.
