  1. Take a look at any 2027 NFL Mock Draft and the majority will have Arch Manning atop the field of players coming out next offseason. On the Up & Adams Show Monday morning, Kay Adams asked UT head coach Steve Sarkisian about Manning potentially declaring early and if Sark would be surprised if Manning wanted to stay in Austin for one more season. “We haven’t had the discussion. I will tell you I would not be surprised,” Sarkisian said. “I think Arch really loves college football. I really do. I think he loves the University of Texas. He does pretty good through NIL. He’s got some pretty good endorsements going right now, which is a credit to him and obviousl…

  2. Why Texas is a top 5 team with the addition of Marcus Spears Jr. Texas was already knocking on the door of being a top 5 team preseason prior to the commitment of 5-star forward Marcus Spears Jr. The Longhorns were ranked No. 7, 8 or 9 by several national publications prior to the Thursday fireworks. Personally, I had Texas in the 6 or 7 range due to the pieces fitting together on the most NBA talented roster that has been put together in Austin. Now with the 6-foot-10 versatile forward Spears Jr. in the boat, Sean Miller's squad goes to another level. My top 10 right now in CBB... 1.Florida - The ruling on Denzel Aberdeen is huge here. 3. As we are at the halfway point of SEC Media days, I figured it would be a good time to check in on what some of the Texas team is doing two weeks before fall camp begins. ** Several players (approx. 8 or 9), including Arch Manning, Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo and Rasheem Biles, spent much of last week in Phoenix working out together. ** Colin Simmons is an undisputed leader of the defense, but that is transferring to the entire team. Simmons, according to one source, is the one who is holding others “accountable”. ** On Sunday at the THSCA convention, Steve Sarkisian mentioned that incoming transfer Laurence Seymore has transformed his body …

  4. Started by Bobby Burton,

Jahdae Barron and Quinn Ewers met with the media following practice last night. CJ will have a full report later this morning. But I picked up on one thing from each player that I wanted to mention this morning. Jahdae Barron compared playing the star position to playing the kid's game of Red Light, Green Light. He was, of course, talking about how you see run vs pass and his corresponding responsibilities on the play. It was an easy analogy to understand just how clearly Barron's mind for the game works. If it's a run, he needs to go. If it's a pass, he needs to stay or drop into coverage. Boiling things down to that simple of a process is one of…

  5. The very latest on Damonic Williams TCU defensive line transfer Damonic Williams wraps up his visit to Texas this morning. OnTexasFootball was informed by someone close to the recruitment that the visit went as well as could be expected. The Texas program, culture, need at the position, Kenny Baker's presentation, and Steve Sarkisian's program in general all checked the boxes. Williams is expected to continue the visit process with a decision likely mid-to-late next week. OnTexasFootball expects Williams to make visits to LSU and probably Missouri prior to making a decision. Oklahoma also remains in the picture. View full news story

  6. Portal Kombat: Three big men to know The Texas Longhorns are in search of one more big man out of the portal to complete the 2024-25 front court. And there are three names to know right now for Texas fans. OnTexasFootball brings the latest on the portal recruiting front. The top target New Mexico freshman 6-9 forward JT Toppin is a name to know for Texas fans. Toppin had a tremendous freshman campaign averaging 12.4 points and 9.1 rebounds in 36 games, including 35 starts. Toppin is going through NBA pre-draft workouts, but the expectation currently is that he will return to college for a second season. This should be considered a very toug…

  7. First fireworks of the spring! Texas earns a commitment from 2026 Klein OL Nic Robertson on his visit! Robertson projects as an interior guy at the next level and is listed at 6-foot-3 and 335 pounds. Very solid start to the 2026 offensive line class with Max Wright and Robertson now in the fold for Kyle Flood. Robertson becomes the fourth commitment in the 2026 class, joining QB Dia Bell, WR Chris Stewart and OL Max Wright. View full news story

  8. Started by Bobby Burton,

After today, Steve Sarkisian gives his team a long weekend prior to the beginning of training camp. Players are set to return for a team meeting next Tuesday and then the first practice is expected to be next Wednesday. At that point, football season will have actually started. ** On the surface, there appears to be a lot of pressure on Arch Manning and the Longhorns to meet out-sized expectations this season. But following SEC media days, I feel like three of Texas’ closest SEC neighbors - A&M, LSU and OU - may have have more daunting expectations. Texas A&M coach Mike Elko is on record saying he has high expectations for his team th…

  11. Five-star visitor headed to Austin this weekend Five-star linebacker and current USC pledge Xavier Griffin (Gainesville, Ga./High) is scheduled to make an unofficial visit this weekend per a close to the recruitment. Texas linebacker coach Johnny Nansen and area recruiting Kenny Baker made a stop at Gainesville High in January, and have been in steady communication since. This will be the 6-foot-3.5, 215-pounders first visit to Texas this weekend. The plan for the Texas staff is to then secure a June official visit. Griffin has one OV locked in on the books currently, USC June 20. View full news story

Quick portal update: Texas has hosted five official visitors during the winter portal window. Three of those players have committed to Texas - Purdue DL Cole Brevard, Arkansas LB Brad Spence and Utah P Jack Bouwmeester. The other two - Georgia Tech WR Eric Singleton and Purdue TE Max Klare - chose Auburn and Ohio State, respectively, yesterday. So where does that leave Texas? Well, the portal window closes on Dec. 28 for teams and their players no longer participating in bowls or the playoffs. However, if a player is still participating, he receives a five-day grace period following his bowl or playoff game. In other words, there are still ab…

  15. Texas Hoops Report: Spears Jr.'s first workout with the team The Texas Longhorns finished up their best week of summer workouts to date. And quite frankly, that is how it should be with a new team building on court chemistry and confidence . OTF relays some notes from the week. Marcus Spears Jr. went through his first team workout on Thursday. He didn’t waste much time, as he was aggressive attacking offensively on day one. His ability in transition showed up early on, including a couple of finishes at the rim over bigs. He looked like he absolutely belonged on day one. Cleaning up shot selection at times is key for any young player, and that comes with m…

  17. Started by Bobby Burton,

I’m writing this in my car before exiting and going deeper into the mob scene that is Texas vs Ohio State. ** The vibe here is tremendous. Tailgates abound. They have parties in every nook and cranny. There’s also a magnificent stadium as a backdrop to all the tailgates as well as the creature comforts of a big-time game, like ESPN’s College Gameday, all right off the main drag. This is a big-time atmosphere, no doubt about it. ** One thing I would like to add: Ohioans take their football seriously. It’s very much like the state of Texas in that regard, maybe more similar to Texas than any other state in the country. Football is importan…

  18. Started by Bobby Burton,

It’s an off week for the Longhorns, so it’s supposed to be a slow news week. Well, yesterday was anything but. ** First, Oklahoma announced its Heisman front-running quarterback, John Mateer, would have surgery later today in Los Angeles for a problem with his throwing hand. The surgery is expected to sideline Mateer for at least a month. For those calculating such things, that length of time is just enough for Mateer to miss the Red River Rivalry with the Longhorns. OU coach Brent Venables already announced sophomore Michael Hawkins as the starter in the Sooners’ game in 11 days against Kent State. It’s highly likely Hawkins will also be the star…

  19. Following the Horns series clenching win over the Aggies on Saturday, I spoke with some sources regarding freshman Jonah Williams. Originally the plan was to play Williams this weekend, if he was ready. As of Friday morning, there was a good feeling he would be back against the Aggies. That changed later that day and we didn’t see Williams in the lineup yesterday or today. You won’t see him tomorrow either, I’m told. Williams tweaked his hamstring against Texas State and the staff is in no hurry to put him back out on the field until he’s good to go. I also wouldn’t expect to see him on Tuesday against Prairie View A&M either. With t…

  22. Started by Bobby Burton,

Texas finished its ninth practice of the spring last night. It was a scrimmage setting with dozens of current high school coaches on hand because of the coaching clinic Texas is hosting. Some notes: - While Colin Simmons is clearly the team’s top edge defender, two other defensive ends were singled out for their play yesterday-Lance Jackson and Colton Vasek. Vasek has been a steady (and healthy) performer this spring. - Dia Bell had another strong practice. The true freshman made multiple throws and a scramble that were noted by onlookers. One thing one source told us is that both Bell and KJ Lacey “move well”. When asked for more details, he…

  23. We reported yesterday afternoon that Cole Hutson has been approved for a temporary restraining order to move forward with his suit against the NCAA and its application of the 5-for-5 rule. Hutson, once he receives the actual order itself from the judge today, can then provide it to Texas and begin resuming football activities immediately. In other words, the judge ruled yesterday in favor of Hutson. Now Hutson and his representation must wait for the judge to write the order. ** Interestingly, Hutson's and Colorado DL Ezra Christensen's suits against the NCAA are similarly situated. Both appear to be succeeding. This is expected to open up another…

  24. Started by Bobby Burton,

After a month of playing heavily outmatched opponents in Austin and an additional off week, the Longhorns must now start conference play by heading to Gainesville, Fla. The first month was akin to an NFL preseason, only with one big game to kick it off. ** So here’s where thing stand: Everything predicted prior to conference play is basically irrelevant. Because now is the time the Horns must perform if they have designs on the college football playoff and a successful season. Each and every week matters. And I expect the Horns to be tested in different ways. At the start of the season, I felt like 2025 could largely be reduced to a five-game…

  25. Started by Bobby Burton,

The Longhorns are back on the practice field today. Some news and notes based on what we’ve heard: - Even though Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore have been sidelined for spring, don’t think they’re taking camp off. I’m told the duo, along with Manny Muhammad, have been working overtime watching film. Muhammad is somewhat famous for how much film he takes in. Moore and Wingo seem to be doing the same this off-season, including all three watching film together to give each other a view of what the two sides of the ball are seeing and reacting to. - One of the early surprises of spring had been Zina Umeozulu. As we reported on Tuesday, Zina suffered a thumb injury…
