A unanimous vote has passed the long-awaited age based eligiblity model for the future of collegiate athletics. Student athletes will now have five years of eligibility, with redshirts and extensions now obsolete. - Five years of eligibility, no redshirts or extensions The clock for eligibility begins at 19 years old or college enrollment, whichever comes earlier. On Wednesday, the Division I cabinet of the NCAA passed a new rule to address the "ghost transfer" issue in college sports. The new rule: "Penalizes programs that sign a transfer student-athlete, add a transfer student-athlete to a roster, or allow a transfer student-athlete to participate in athletically related activities before the student-athlete is entered into the NCAA Transfer Portal." The new rule, effective immediately for all transfers after on or after Feb. 25, 2026, carries penalties that include: Suspension of the respective sport's head coach for 50% of a season Fine of 20% of that sport's budget. NCAA Transfer Portal Thread The NCAA Transfer portal for undergraduate students officially opens at 12:01 a.m. April. The portal closes at 11:59 p.m. on April 30. That doesn't mean players must have decisions by the April 30 date, but officially be in the portal by that time. Texas needs in the portal are defensive line (2) and possibly punter (1). Former West Virginia head coach Neal Brown is expected to join the Texas staff in an analyst role. Brown was the head coach for the Mountaineers for six seasons and for Troy the four years prior to that. He also experience coaching in the state of Texas as the former offensive coordinator for Texas Tech. Texas has its first 2028 commitment in four-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence, dipping into American Heritage for the second time in two cycles to sign their signal caller (Dia Bell in 2026). Texas has offered a new defensive lineman out of the west coast. 2025 Rancho Santa Margarita DL Jayden-Jamal Hanne was offered by Texas DL coach Kenny Baker Tuesday afternoon. The 6-foot-5 and 290-pound defensive lineman has earned offers from Georgia, Florida, Minnesota, and Oregon in the last three days. Needless to say his recruitment is exploding at the moment. Hanne is from Germany officially, and is still relatively new to the game. A developmental prospect, but the tape shows plenty of athleticism due to a multi-sport background growing up. Texas made a new scholarship offer to a class of 2026 prospect earlier today. Traeviss Stevenson of Brooks Co. High School in Quitman, Ga., was offered by Texas assistant Jeff Banks. Stevenson is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back who could play any of the three secondary positions (corner, safety or nickel). Texas has hired Josh Brunson away from Memphis, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. Brunson was the director of recruiting at Memphis. Brunson is said to have strong ties to the state of Georgia. Brandon Harris is the general manager for Texas. He was elevated to that position from Director of Recruiting by Steve Sarkisian in January of 2024. Harris received a sizable raise and extension from Sarkisian just last month. Other key off-field personnel for the Horns include Chris Gilbert, special assistant to the head coach, John Michael Jones, director of player personnel, and Taylor Searels, director of recruiting.

As of this minute, sources tell OTF that IMG Academy edge Jake Kreul will likely pick Oklahoma over Texas and Ole Miss tomorrow afternoon. The Sooners seem to have prioritized Kreul. NC State transfer running back Hollywood Smothers committed to Alabama almost a week ago now. But he never signed his NIL deal with the Crimson Tide. Smothers is now expected to be on the Texas campus Saturday and Sunday, according to On Texas Football. Smothers rushed for 939 yards and six TDs in 2025 and also made 37 receptions for another score. He's 5-11, 195 pounds and has breakaway speed. He had five runs of more than 50 yards this past season.
