That didn't take long! Texas has earned a commitment from San Jose State portal CB Jay'Vion Cole. Cole was on campus this weekend for an official visit and quickly made enough of an impact to earn his commitment. Cole was scheduled to visit Auburn next week, though the staff did enough to get him to shut things down this weekend and now the Longhorns have found an answer for the departures of Terrance Brooks and Austin Jordan. I spoke with a high-ranking official at the University of Texas this morning. One of the expected outcomes of the scholarship roster expansions will be the creation of more women’s sports teams at Texas. If the numbers divulged by the Yahoo! report are accurate, and the source I spoke with says they are, it creates roughly 60+ new men’s scholarship opportunities compared to just roughly 20 on the women’s side. That disparity will put Texas, and others, at odds with federal Title IX legislation that requires scholarship opportunities to be equal on both sides. I was reminded by someone yesterday that most of the first week is always “install” for the coming season. That means getting players - all players, not just the first-line units - to understand key aspects of the offense and defense, and doing the things in live action that the coaches have talked about and shown to the players on the proverbial chalkboard for months.
