Race for the No. 1 recruiting class in 2026 The Texas Longhorns are squarely in the mix for the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2026 cycle after a very strong last half of July. When looking at the teams that are truly in the hunt for the top ranked class, there six teams with a realistic shot. Those schools are Georgia, USC, Texas A&M, Alabama, Texas and Ohio State. Notre Dame is currently a top 5 level class, but doesn't have the runway to be in the mix for the No. 1 class as it stands today. For those on Twitter you probably have scrolled by some tweets of mine calling for the return of the long ball and explosivity of the Texas offense to rise under Arch Manning. Off-season narratives are starting to creep into the conversation. Yesterday alone, two different national reporters/analysts - Andy Staples and David Pollack - chose Texas to win the 2025 national championship. And Arch Manning was projected to be a second-team All-American. Handful of Recruiting Nuggets *** With the decision of 2027 QB Kavian Bryant heading out west to Texas Tech, the Longhorns wasted no time adding a 2027 quarterback to the visitors list for the return to DKR vs. Vanderbilt. Today marks the last day any player, on any team, can enter the NCAA transfer portal. Football players must submit appropriate paperwork by 11:59pm tonight in order to be eligible elsewhere next season. The NCAA grants a 48-hour grace period for schools to enter a player's name into the portal. While we have heard of multiple Longhorn players contemplating such a move, we have not heard of any paperwork officially being filed, at least not as of yesterday afternoon. Could Texas finish with the No. 2 ranked class? The Texas Longhorns are sitting at the No. 5 or 6 ranked recruiting class in the 2025 cycle currently. We're on the cusp of spring practice beginning and NFL pro day. Both events are tomorrow. One thing we always look for in the spring are any jersey number changes. Well, we have the first one. The team's new No. 1, at least on offense, is Ryan Wingo. The sophomore from St. Louis is switching from number 5. What do we make of this sudden rash of commitments in the month of June? It’s very unSarkisian-like. In one way, it’s clear that Texas is a hot school; more recruits are wanting to jump on board earlier rather than later. Yet the string of commitments (five in three days) also strays somewhat from the formula which has brought Sark and Texas so much success of late. Sark has routinely pushed key recruitments well into the football season instead of deciding them in the summer. Perhaps the uncertainty of the House Settlement is playing a role in this. - Volantis didn’t have the best game by any stretch of the imagination, but he was still good. Him giving up four lead off hits is not like him at all, but he didn’t get rattled. Not to mention he was in multiple high pressure situations and still delivered. - I thought it was interesting that Schloss and Max have had a tight leash on pitchers all season, but Volantis had an extremely long one all night, going 106 pitches and 5.1 innings. Health Updates Following Tuesday's Full-Padded Practice *** Steve Sarkisian spoke with the media Tuesday evening after getting off of the practice field for the first full-padded practice of fall camp. • WR Ryan Wingo "Remains a day away" according to Sarkisian. Cal tight end Jack Endries is likely someone the Longhorns will try to go after in the portal. At 6-4, 240, Endries was a freshman All-American two years ago and then caught 56 passes a year ago. He is rated the no. 2 returning tight end in the country by Pro Football Focus. He is expected to enter the portal tomorrow. Indiana, Alabama and Miami are expected to be among the suitors. Indiana may be difficult to overcome because his former Cal quarterback transferred to IU in January. But this is a player to watch for the Horns. View full news story

I’m really happy Texas made the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. But my brain is trying to square the fact that the hoops team was 9-9 in conference yet made it to a post-season tournament while the football team was 6-2 in conference and didn’t. According to sources, Texas wide receiver DeAndre Moore has told Texas staffers that he intends to enter his name into the NFL Draft. Moore will miss the Citrus Bowl because of a lingering toe issue that has had him in a boot for the last two weeks. Moore, a junior, has an additional year of college eligibility but has told Texas that he intends to enter the draft. He caught 38 passes this season for 532 yards and four touchdowns. In 2024, he totaled 39 catches and seven TDs. Texas expects receivers Ryan Wingo, Emmett Mosley V and Parker Livingstone to return in 2026. View full news story

Jamarion Carlton of Temple is expected to make his decision at 4pm today. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive end is thought to be deciding among Texas, Baylor and Texas Tech. Texas was the favorite following his official visit to Austin but he has since visited the Bears in Waco. Baylor is trying to lock down local recruits more than in the recent past. We’ll see if they’re successful in doing so. The Red Raiders are a wildcard. There are rumors that Carlton’s recruitment could be similar to that of Felix Ojo.
