Yesterday, Florida State and Georgia announced they were canceling a home and home series and instead looking into a single game at a neutral field. Why would they do that? Well, there’s the fact that neither team wants to subject themselves to difficult non-conference match-ups in multiple years as opposed to just one. Score one for the current 12-team format I guess. Texas basketball adds developmental PG to the fold The Texas Longhorns added another player to the 2026-27 roster. Lithuanian 19-year old 6-foot-4 point guard Mantas Laurencikas committed to Sean Miller and staff Friday adding more depth and size to the backcourt. Laurencikas is seen as a developmental type prospect upon arrival in Austin in June. Year one in the college game is expected to center very largely around development, and practicing against elite guard talent. I know the first inning looked bad for the Horns last night. Giving up four runs on just two hits is clearly no recipe for success in Omaha. But the performance by the Georgia pitcher in the 7-1 win for the Bulldogs was the real story of the night IMO. Fifteen strikeouts, allowing only four hits while tossing a complete game. The 2024 season has concluded, which means the countdown for August begins now. Of course, the first day of classes for the spring semester began on Monday and the winter conditioning aspect will start up here in the next week. At 10am this morning, Mayde Creek linebacker Kosi Okpala is expected to break the recent recruiting dry streak for the Horns. Okpala has also been considering Penn State, Baylor, Miami and Houston, as well as the Longhorns. He’s an athletic, play-making linebacker who, when you watch him on tape, moves so well that his actual size surprises you.
