The Texas football team is headed to the practice field literally as I type this. This morning will be the 13th of 15 allotted practices this spring. The Horns will practice again on Thursday then finish up with a final practice Saturday morning. Bang! Texas has its tight end for 2025! The Longhorns have landed former Cal TE Jack Endries out of the transfer portal after a two day visit to Austin this weekend. Endries, caught 56 passes a year ago for 623 yards and two touchdowns. He will enter the 2025 season as one of the country’s leading receivers at the tight end position, a huge boost to a Texas tight end room that entered the spring with zero career receptions. Texas has grabbed two commitments in the last week - running back Rickey Stewart of Tyler Chapel Hill and linebacker Elijah "Bo" Barnes of Dallas Skyline. Both elite prospects, both top choices of the coaching staff from the very beginning of the recruiting campaign. Their additions give the Horns six pledges in the 2025 recruiting class. Yet based on what we're hearing, even more pledges are on the way in the near future. Freshman running back Christian Clark landed awkwardly in yesterday afternoon's practice while coming down with a pass. According to sources, we are told that the injury is expected to be season-ending. Clark was unable to make it off the field by himself following the non-contact injury. ** If that's the case, Texas is now down to just three scholarship running backs for the 2024 football season after just the first two weeks in fall camp. ** So where do the Horns go from here? Three quick notes: 1. We are told that junior defensive lineman Maraad Watson, who transferred from Syracuse a year ago, is having an excellent and consistent winter workout session. At this point, coaches will be surprised if he doesn't have a significantly better and more impactful second season in Austin than his first one. 2. The first CFP rankings were released last night and Texas, coming in at no. 11, got a little more respect than some figured they would. The Longhorns were ranked above both Oklahoma and Vanderbilt, two teams they’ve beaten. That should seem obvious yet the Horns are ranked behind OU in the AP poll.
