Some folks have asked multiple times about Mark Stoops and when he might be joining the Texas staff. In speaking with someone close to Stoops over the weekend, we are told the plan is for Stoops to join the staff officially sometime directly following the spring game. Stoops’ role is expected to be largely advisory. I wanted to add some nuggets from a pair of conversations earlier today with folks from two different programs that were at one point in the lead for five-star Jonah Williams. Texas QB Quinn Ewers has been a participant on the practice field so far this week. That much we know. Of course we know Texas is opening SEC play this weekend against Mississippi State at home and as of now, the Longhorns are a 38-point favorite for their first ever game in the conference. Ewers was lightly throwing footballs last week and was an animated piece of the Longhorns sideline on Saturday during the ULM game. Five-star eyeing another visit to Texas The Texas Longhorns pursuit of 5-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson (Loganville, Ga./Grayson) continues. Atkinson, 6-2.25 and 210-pounds, spoke with Tashard Choice and members of the Texas defensive staff prior to the Peach Bowl Wednesday. Texas and Atkinson have communication almost daily at this point, and have since June. Atkinson has been on campus in Austin twice, the Georgia game being the last time, and is expected back on campus in January or early in the spring. I know it’s early in the recruiting process, but I think we’re already seeing the tide turn sooner than even a year ago. More and more elite players are interested in Texas at a deeper level. I’m talking not only about in-state players, but also out-of-state ones, too. That’s a natural biproduct of winning and winning big. So I’m unsure how this Junior Day weekend will unfold. OTF is told that freshman tight end Emaree Winston is out with an injured shoulder that will likely require him to miss at least a couple of months of this season. Winston did not participate in today's scrimmage. The injury came earlier in the week. Winston, a Georgia native, was off to a terrific start in Austin, splitting reps with blue chipper Nick Townsend and holding his own. It's a tough loss from a depth standpoint but Texas still has portal transfer Jack Endries and redshirt sophomore Spencer Shannon who started today's scrimmage with the 1s. Jordan Washington started the second half of scrimmage alongside Endries.

With Trevor Goosby currently sidelined with a finger injury, we've discussed the different ways Kyle Flood is trying to backfill the various OL positions. Yesterday, CJ reported Neto Umeozulu had seen some action at left tackle. We're hearing Brandon Baker is now getting some reps over on the left side, too. Texas, with just 11 days to go until they matchup with Ohio State in Columbus, is repping all emergency-type scenarios. Big Opportunities for 2027 Recruiting with Final Home Games *** It has been a difficult season to host recruits for the Longhorns this season, the schedule just was not very favorable in regards to hosting opportunities. Only six true home games in 2025, included three cupcakes at the beginning of the year where you had to battle the Texas heat. The meeting with President Trump and multiple stakeholders across college sports is still set for tomorrow. There was also a meeting of A4 conference stakeholders Tuesday in Dallas who were listening to a pitch from private equity. And there is also a call from government for public comment on the Sports Broadcasting Act as well. In other words, wheels are in motion to “change” college sports. That’s great news. I was asked a question last night by a friend. He asked if a certain player, who did not play against UTSA, was in the "doghouse". I didn't know the answer for sure, so we checked with a couple of sources, and no, said player is definitely not in the doghouse. But that inquiry led to a few more questions.
