Recruiting: Two LSU commits OTF is monitoring The Texas staff is recruiting a few LSU commits after the firing of Brian Kelly, and already were prior to the dismissal to be clear. Sarkisian Updates the LB Position *** Texas will officially be without TyAnthony Smith for the first half against Texas A&M. Steve Sarkisian said that Texas did appeal the targeting call with league officials, but the decision was upheld and Smith will not see the field for the first half. "I thought Ty'Anthony used really good fundamentals and techniques," Sarkisian said. "He kept the crown of his helmet out of it. He wrapped. He didn't launch himself into the receiver. Apparently an outlet has recently reported that Texas defensive back Jonah Williams was hurt in practice. I've checked with a couple of sources on this and I'm told that Williams is practicing. He did suffer a minor setback last week, but it was not serious. Texas was off yesterday, but he's been a full participant in practice. Jonah is also expected to try and balance both football and baseball this spring. He most likely won't be a full participant in spring football, however.

Usually teams are either mentally checked out for bowl games or really honed in. You can easily get a sense of that in how they practice. But I went to practice yesterday for the brief media viewing window, and I just couldn't tell much, especially not the overall vibe or energy of the team. The viewing window was just too short. So that means any prediction of mine for this game is going to be a shot in the dark at some level. I think the Michigan defense is better and deeper than most Longhorns fans realize. Team Notes from Week One of Spring Ball *** Day three of spring ball wrapped up this morning. Next up for the team is a week off for spring break, followed by the pads coming on in 10 days for spring ball practice #4. Some notes from the first week of practice from my end. I’ve spoken to a multitude of folks over the past three weeks of practice. There are several major trendlines that are becoming more than just hyperbole. 1. The Overall Talent I have not spoken to a single “outsider” who has attended a practice who has not come away saying that this is the most physically gifted Texas team they have seen in recent memory. Tennessee transfer guard Amari Evans announced Friday that he has committed to the Texas Longhorns. Evans was a key role player for the Vols as a freshman averaging 4.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and a steal per game in 14.4 minutes per contest. Last October just hours before Texas took the field against Mississippi State in Starkville, a report surfaced from former NFL reporter Diana Russini stating that UT head coach Steve Sarkisian made it known to his representation that he would be open to NFL opportunities in the offseason. Back-to-back home runs happen all the time. At least a couple of times a season. But back-to-back-to-back? It's rare. And it's particularly rare in the post-season. But that's exactly what Aiden Robbins, Carson Tinney, and Anthony Pack Jr. pulled off in the second inning yesterday at the Disch. Texas bats have erupted in the post-season. Portal juice: The latest Texas' pursuit of TCU transfer Damonic Williams is the top defensive lineman the Longhorns are after out of the portal. With that said, there are two other names the Texas staff is monitoring. Michigan State 3-technique Simeon Barrow Jr. is talking to the Texas staff, and a visit next week has been discussed.
