Hopefully some of you got a chance to read some of my notes from yesterday’s practice. I have a few more to add below. - I mentioned a likely starter was sidelined on Thursday. I didn’t mention his name because I was awaiting word on exactly what the issue is/was. Since another site went ahead and ran with the name, I can confirm that that player is tight end Michael Masunas. However, I do not know exactly what the injury is. I can confirm it’s an injury of some sort, though I’m not led to believe it’s long term in nature. Masunas has had a bit of a history with soft-tissue injuries in his career. Given that I mentioned in this space yesterday that Arch Manning would be hosting some of his receivers in New Orleans this week, here's a nice photo from Instagram... with a little bit of humor from his dad. The group includes Ryan Wingo, Emmett Mosley V, Cam Coleman and Sterling Berkhalter. I'm told that that the group basically went from the airport yesterday morning, and within an hour, they were all running routes. Texas softball will have a chance to defend its national title after defeating Arizona State on Sunday afternoon, 5-0, to advance to the Women's College World Series for the third straight season. The Longhorns will look to defend their title in Oklahoma City. Texas fell down 0-1 on Friday in the Austin Super Regional, but bounced back on Saturday in a come-from-behind win over the Sun Devils, and then closed out the series on Sunday. Texas goes back-to-back days with an elite commitment, this time in four-star edge rusher Jabarrius Garror, who pledged to the Longhorns on Friday morning over Auburn and Georgia, among many others. A one-time Alabama commit, Garror becomes the third pass rusher Texas is adding as the program stocks up on quarterback disruptors for the post Colin Simmons era. Team note and recruiting percentages A team note and more on recruiting to begin your Wednesday. Team note... OTF believes the odds of junior Kobe Black moving to safety continue to rise. Black, who was a starting cornerback in the spring showcase, also repped a little at safety in the spring. OTF was informed earlier this week that Black is going to work more at safety this summer and leading into August practices. What's Ahead During Texas' No. 1 Toughest Ranked Schedule? *** Over the weekend, I was able to connect with an SEC coach to talk the season ahead in 2026. A large portion of the conversation stemmed from the notion that Texas was set to have a very difficult schedule ahead. For some context, this source had been in the conference for a handful of years and has appeared on sidelines for majority of his time in the role he is in currently. Texas should be a much better team in 2026 than 2025. We all believe that. But that expected improvement is not rare among the teams in the SEC hoping to win a conference championship. Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, and LSU all believe they will be significantly improved, and for good reason. OU, for example, believes it has upgraded its offensive line, its run game and its tight end position, not to mention having a second-year starter at quarterback. While it’s easy to forget considering we’re now entering the 6th year of the Steve Sarkisian era, it’s important to remember just how big of an impact Torre Becton and his strength and conditioning program has had on the turning around of Texas. A few nuggets from today's practice that I have been able to gather today. *** First and foremost, On Texas Football has been vocal about the Parker Livingstone noise leading up to the spring and that build up is absolutely paying off so far through the first week of spring ball. I was told Livingstone found the end zone a handful of times on Thursday and was "really damn good" again on Saturday. I have mentioned the pen to pencil ratio in terms of cracking the starting lineup – If Ryan Wingo is in sharpie, Livingstone is right behind him in ballpoint pen. On top of the two signees today - Cal tight end Jack Endries and Maryland defensive lineman Lavon Johnson - On Texas Football has learned that the Longhorns are also hosting another official visitor from the transfer portal, Texas State kicker Mason Shipley. Shipley, who played high school ball at nearby Liberty Hill, was 15-15 as a sophomore and 15-19 as a junior with a long of 60 yards last season.
