June OV's: Defensive front takes center stage The Texas Longhorns currently have 54 official visitors scheduled for June. That number is not a final number with 5-star RB Derrek Cooper and 5-star LB Tyler Atkinson still expected to make OV's next month, while OTF expects 2-4 others to cancel. When looking at the current OV list, the defensive front stands out. There are 16 official visits currently locked in at defensive line and EDGE. Those 16 OV's come from the states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, California, Virginia and New Jersey. Texas is truly battling all the SEC and national powers on the defensive front, which is right w…

Junior Tu'upo Announcement Thread Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson DB Junior Tu'upo is scheduled to announce his decisions at 3pm CT today. The 6-foot-3, 192-pound versatile DB that projects to safety is considered a Texas lean over Alabama and Auburn headed into the announcement. Tu'upo made his official visit to Texas June 5-7, and followed with OV's to Auburn and Alabama. He also made OV's to Indiana and Oregon prior to Texas. Texas DC Will Muschamp and safeties coach Blake Gideon have made Tu'upo a priority for months, and the OTF 4-star prospect and family fully understand they are a priority. Tu'upo played at Clearwater (Fla.) Central Catholic …

The Texas Longhorns have landed another out of state commitment, this time from Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson safety Junior Tu’upo. The Longhorns went into the Yellowhammer State and won out for Tu’upo despite the 6-foot-3, 190 pounder being an hour away from Alabama and two hours away from Auburn. It’s the latest example of Steve Sarkisian and Co. going out of state for a coveted target. It’s also another example of Texas winning battles in the heart of SEC country. Those are two things no Texas coach has ever done nearly as well as Sarkisian. To bring to light the differences in Texas’ recruiting strategy under Sarkisian compared to year’s past, OTF compare…

Texas' 3rd Down Pass Rush Taking the Next Step When you have a top-5 defense in the country, not often do you find many areas of true weakness. In fact, many parts of your defense would be considered strengths. Taking a deeper look into third downs and what might the personnel groupings on obvious passing situations might be, I can not help but think the Longhorns' could have one of the best packages for third downs in all of the country. Before getting into reasons why that may be, let's look back at the 3rd down conversion percentages since Pete Kwiatkowski arrived as the Longhorn defensive coordinator. 2021: 42.35% (94th) 2022: 41.31% (88th) …

Just how fast could the Texas 2025 class be? With Tanook Hines (Houston, Texas/Dekaney) making an official visit to Texas this weekend, it got me thinking about just how fast the Texas 2025 class could be if they pushed for all the fastest players. The speed possibilities in the 2025 class for the Longhorns isn't just limited to wide receiver and defensive back. Nicholas Townsend (Houston/Dekaney) is an elite size/speed athlete at tight end, and Elijah Barnes (Dallas/Skyline) and Riley Pettijohn (McKinney, Texas) are very elite athletes at the linebacker position. OTF takes a look at the fastest players the Horns are recruiting in the 2025 cycle. D…

Just how impressive is the Texas 2025 Recruiting Class? The Texas Longhorns enter the decision of 5-star defensive lineman Justus Terry (Manchester, Ga./High) as the No. 1 ranked recruiting class in the 2025 cycle. The decision of Terry will decide the "National Recruiting Champion". If Terry picks Texas, the Longhorns will be a runaway consensus No. 1. If Terry picks Georgia, the Dawgs will overtake Texas for No. 1. If Terry picks Auburn, no change. If Terry picks Alabama, likely no change should Ty Haywood flip to Michigan. With or without Terry, this is the most talent Steve Sarkisian and staff have signed in a class. And that is saying something with t…

Justus Terry Announcement Thread Manchester (Ga.) High 5-star defensive lineman Justus Terry will announce his decision at 12 pm eastern today. Terry, 6-5, 275-pounds, is down to four schools. The four are home-state Georgia, Auburn, Texas and Alabama. As of Wednesday, the Crimson Tide were not expecting it to be them. That leaves Georgia, Auburn and Texas. One parent is okay with a farther from home decision (Texas), and one parent likes the close driving distance options. Georgia has been considered the favorite, but Texas does believe they are in the fight. Auburn the same. NIL is a major factor here. But the highest NIL bid doesn't necessa…

Summer conditioning begins Monday morning and the Longhorns will be taking the field with one more scholarship player than when the month of May ended. Steve Sarkisian awarded a scholarship to kicker Bert Auburn in front of the team during a meeting Sunday evening. Auburn was one of the Longhorns' most important pieces a year ago. No kicker in the country made or attempted as many field goals as Auburn and the Longhorns reward his contributions with a full scholarship. In 2023, Auburn went 29–35 field goal kicking and hit all 56 of his extra point attempts. View full news story

Kade Phillips update Missouri City, Texas - OnTexasFootball 4-star defensive back Kade Phillips has one official visit behind him, and has three decisive ones coming up. Phillips, 6-2 and 178 pounds, made an official visit to Baylor the last weekend of April. And while the Houston area two-sport star likes Bears DB coach Kevin Curtis, Baylor is not expected to be the pick. That leaves Texas A&M, LSU and Texas as remaining official visits, and where the decision will come from. OTF believes Texas and LSU are where the the ultimate decision will come from - as of today. Texas safeties coach Blake Gideon is scheduled to be at Hightower High Tuesday.…

Kaliq Lockett: The Latest The Texas Longhorns are in a good spot for the OnTexasFootball 4-star++ wide receiver out of Sachse (Texas) High. Lockett, 6-2 and 170, and family have engaged in some very productive calls with Steve Sarkisian and Chris Jackson in the last week. OTF believes the Horns have a solid lead over Alabama with LSU, Texas A&M and FSU rounding out the list ahead of an August 7 announcement. Lockett stats: Junior season: 59 receptions for 1,299 yards and 13 TD’s Sophomore season: 30 receptions for 492 yards and 5 TDs Freshman season: 15 receptions for 282 yards and 4 TD’s View full news story

UCLA DL Jay Toia has announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal. Our sources say Texas will be interested here. Toia started all 12 games for UCLA a year ago, racking up 28 combined tackles and a sack. Toia played 359 snaps a year ago for the Bruins, with 139 of those snaps coming inside the A-gap. The former UCLA lineman lined up 185 times at the B-gap as well. This will be a name to keep an eye on as Texas continues its search for an additional interior defensive lineman. View full news story

Panicking over recruiting? “Don’t worry, we’ve got it handled. Just keep the faith.” That’s seemingly what Steve Sarkisian was reminding us all of yesterday following the flip of Folsom, Calif., defensive tackle Josiah Sharma from Oregon to Texas. Sark, in typical Sark style, scoffed at the idea of recruiting being all about early commitments and landed one of his very top defensive tackles in the country. Sharma, who is 6-4.5, 325 pounds, made 45 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and five sacks in 2023. He is exactly the type of interior, disruptive anchor Sark wanted for Pete Kwiatkowski’s defense. The Horns are now at 16 commitments with several oth…

Gerry’s on the road and asked me to put this up for him: After canceling his previously scheduled visit to Miami for this weekend, Tampa, Fla., linebacker Kellen Wiley is a possible visitor to Texas this weekend. However, Florida now is also entering the picture and attempting to get him to visit Gainesville this weekend instead. Looks like the Gators don’t like the Longhorns going to the Sunshine State and trying to do whatever they can to stop it. View full news story

Kellen Wiley: The OTF rundown Seffner, Fla. - OnTexasFootball spent a couple of hours at Armwood High Wednesday to see new Texas 2025 linebacker offer Kellen Wiley. This morning, OTF provides a rundown of the recruitment of the fast rising senior. The Texas offer Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Banks are recruiting Wiley for Texas, with Johnny Nansen involved. Jeff Banks has recruited the area and school for a few years. That includes being part of the recruitment of former 4-star and current NFL RB Jerome Ford, who signed with Alabama. The offer came from PK Tuesday, October 29. "They spoke with my coach. Said they liked my film. They told my coach…

Kelshaun Johnson post visit update OnTexasFootball spoke just now with Kelshaun Johnson. The 4-star WR from Hitchcock (Texas) High told OTF that Texas and Texas A&M are 50-50 after the weekend. Johnson also said he’s unsure if he will make the June 21-23 OV to USC this weekend. This will be a Texas vs Texas A&M decision, and could be sooner rather than later.

Port Orange, Fla. - OnTexasFootball made a stop at Spruce Creek High around lunchtime. OTF had the opportunity to sit down with 4-star defensive lineman Derry Norris to get the latest. And the latest is Texas defensive line coach Kenny Baker was at Spruce Creek practice Monday to watch the 6-4, 270 pounder with 10.5 inch hands. The result of the visit was Baker talking to Norris about locking in a June 21-23 official visit date. OTF believes that will get finalized soon. Texas and Miami have Norris’ full attention. Miami has an OV scheduled for June 7-9. The Florida Gators are also pushing for a June OV. Georgia Tech and Minnesota are locked…

A source at Eau Gallie High told OnTexasFootball this morning that Texas remains in a very good spot, and that Brown and family loved the March visit to Texas. Texas and Kevin Durant have partnered together for a new Nike NIL program that will celebrate "select Longhorn student-athletes." UT women's basketball star Madison Booker is the first athlete recognized in the deal, and she will have access to KD PEs, apparel and more. “My time at UT had a huge impact on not only my basketball career, but on me personally,” said Kevin Durant. “Supporting players during their college playing career was always a goal, and I’m thrilled to be able to expand our partnership with UT, bring Boardroom into the mix, and create programming that benefits all UT student-athletes.” “It means a lot to be a Nike athlete,” said Madison Booke…
