June OV's: Defensive front takes center stage The Texas Longhorns currently have 54 official visitors scheduled for June. That number is not a final number with 5-star RB Derrek Cooper and 5-star LB Tyler Atkinson still expected to make OV's next month, while OTF expects 2-4 others to cancel. When looking at the current OV list, the defensive front stands out. There are 16 official visits currently locked in at defensive line and EDGE. Those 16 OV's come from the states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, California, Virginia and New Jersey. Junior Tu'upo Announcement Thread Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson DB Junior Tu'upo is scheduled to announce his decisions at 3pm CT today. The 6-foot-3, 192-pound versatile DB that projects to safety is considered a Texas lean over Alabama and Auburn headed into the announcement. The Texas Longhorns have landed another out of state commitment, this time from Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson safety Junior Tu’upo. The Longhorns went into the Yellowhammer State and won out for Tu’upo despite the 6-foot-3, 190 pounder being an hour away from Alabama and two hours away from Auburn. Justus Terry Announcement Thread Manchester (Ga.) High 5-star defensive lineman Justus Terry will announce his decision at 12 pm eastern today. Terry, 6-5, 275-pounds, is down to four schools. The four are home-state Georgia, Auburn, Texas and Alabama. As of Wednesday, the Crimson Tide were not expecting it to be them. That leaves Georgia, Auburn and Texas. One parent is okay with a farther from home decision (Texas), and one parent likes the close driving distance options. Summer conditioning begins Monday morning and the Longhorns will be taking the field with one more scholarship player than when the month of May ended. Steve Sarkisian awarded a scholarship to kicker Bert Auburn in front of the team during a meeting Sunday evening. Auburn was one of the Longhorns' most important pieces a year ago. No kicker in the country made or attempted as many field goals as Auburn and the Longhorns reward his contributions with a full scholarship. Kade Phillips update Missouri City, Texas - OnTexasFootball 4-star defensive back Kade Phillips has one official visit behind him, and has three decisive ones coming up. Phillips, 6-2 and 178 pounds, made an official visit to Baylor the last weekend of April. And while the Houston area two-sport star likes Bears DB coach Kevin Curtis, Baylor is not expected to be the pick. The 4-star DB out of Hightower High is going to be a Texas vs. LSU decision as OTF has been reporting. Phillips had a tremendous OV to Texas, as expected. Kaliq Lockett: The Latest The Texas Longhorns are in a good spot for the OnTexasFootball 4-star++ wide receiver out of Sachse (Texas) High. Lockett, 6-2 and 170, and family have engaged in some very productive calls with Steve Sarkisian and Chris Jackson in the last week. OTF believes the Horns have a solid lead over Alabama with LSU, Texas A&M and FSU rounding out the list ahead of an August 7 announcement. UCLA DL Jay Toia has announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal. Our sources say Texas will be interested here. Toia started all 12 games for UCLA a year ago, racking up 28 combined tackles and a sack. Toia played 359 snaps a year ago for the Bruins, with 139 of those snaps coming inside the A-gap. The former UCLA lineman lined up 185 times at the B-gap as well. This will be a name to keep an eye on as Texas continues its search for an additional interior defensive lineman. Just keep the faith.” That’s seemingly what Steve Sarkisian was reminding us all of yesterday following the flip of Folsom, Calif., defensive tackle Josiah Sharma from Oregon to Texas. However, Florida now is also entering the picture and attempting to get him to visit Gainesville this weekend instead. Kelshaun Johnson post visit update OnTexasFootball spoke just now with Kelshaun Johnson. The 4-star WR from Hitchcock (Texas) High told OTF that Texas and Texas A&M are 50-50 after the weekend. Johnson also said he’s unsure if he will make the June 21-23 OV to USC this weekend. This will be a Texas vs Texas A&M decision, and could be sooner rather than later.

Texas linebacker Kendrick Blackshire, who transferred from Alabama just four months ago, has re-entered the NCAA transfer portal. Blackshire was running third team for the Horns at middle linebacker behind Anthony Hill and Liona Lefau. This was not a surprise to Texas staff. View full news story

And the latest is Texas defensive line coach Kenny Baker was at Spruce Creek practice Monday to watch the 6-4, 270 pounder with 10.5 inch hands.
