As I alluded to this morning, Texas was closing in on wrapping up their coaching search to replace Nolan Cain. On Texas Football has confirmed that Texas is set to hire Oregon assistant coach Jack Marder and former Texas/Texas A&M assistant Caleb Longley. Marder is a former Oregon player and was the Ducks assistant coach, serving as hitting coach, catchers coach and recruiting coordinator under Mark Wasikowski. He helped land Baseball America’s No. 5 recruiting class in 2022, while also earning national recognition as one of college baseball’s rising assistant coaches. We remain on Monshun Sales watch entering the new week. As OTF has reported, we believe this is more Indiana vs. Texas of late as the five-star receiver works towards a commitment. There's no decision date set, but we continue to look at July 10 as a good marker for when there could be some finality to Sales' process. With SEC Media Days taking center stage, we haven’t given much attention to what’s going on in Washington DC. Couple of quick notes: 1. I’ve been told that the returning starter in question - the one we’ve been tracking - has decided to stay at Texas and did not enter the portal. So put that one to bed. 2. We're on the cusp of spring practice beginning and NFL pro day. Both events are tomorrow. One thing we always look for in the spring are any jersey number changes. Well, we have the first one. The team's new No. 1, at least on offense, is Ryan Wingo. The sophomore from St. Louis is switching from number 5. Stanford edge prospect David Bailey began his visit to Texas yesterday. That visit concludes later today. Bailey already visited Texas Tech earlier this week. Among a host of other suitors, UCLA may also get an official visit. As we’ve mentioned previously, Texas views Bailey as an elite player. After all, he was the best player on the Stanford team in 2024. He recorded seven sacks even though opposing teams knew he was really the Cardinal’s only defensive threat much of the season. Bang!! The first official visit weekend of June is prosperous for the Texas Longhorns! The Longhorns earn a commitment from Ouchita Parish (La.) DL Dylan Berymon. Alarm bells started going off at OTF when we heard Berymon was expected to bring double digit number of family members on his official visit this weekend and sure enough, a commitment comes as a result of his trip to Austin. The 6-foot-1-inch, 310-pound interior defensive lineman is a rock on the inside of a defensive line. As you all know by now, summer workouts started at the beginning of this month. I can confirm that everyone has made it to campus. This includes the incoming freshmen that weren’t early enrollees and all portal players. — I’m told that workouts are going very well, but that they are extremely difficult. Some days include both a morning session, followed by a mid to late afternoon session. Player accountability amongst the team seems to be a driving point this summer. We mentioned this morning that Jonah Williams is practicing more completely with the team. Now we can report fellow blue chip freshman DB Kade Phillips is no longer truly limited either. Both had been nursing hamstring issues to start training camp.
