Texas DL recruiting board ahead of Georgia game Steve Sarkisian and Kenny Baker will host a number of top targets remaining on the 2025 defensive line recruiting board Saturday. The entire visitors list for the Georgia game will arguably be the best ever for a Texas home game, but it's the defensive line in particular that will have a lot of eyes focused on the returns. The Longhorns plan to sign four or five DL's in the 2025 class with two high-end commitments already in the fold. OnTexasFootball takes a look at the defensive line recruiting board headed into the top 5 matchup Saturday. Commitments (2) Josiah Sharma, DL, Folsom (Calif.) High #Al…

Boom! Texas has its quarterback of the future! 2028 Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage standout Neimann Lawrence, a 6-foot, 200-pound signal caller, committed to the Longhorns on Thursday evening over Miami, Ohio State, Michigan, and many others. The addition of Lawrence marks another move to South Florida to add talent at the quarterback position. Texas added former top recruit Dia Bell in the 2026 class, also out of American Heritage. Lawrence has been a long-time target of the Longhorns, earning an offer from the staff well over a year ago. He’s been on campus multiple times throughout his recruitment, including for the Elite Camp last month. …

Stanford defensive end David Bailey chose Texas Tech over Texas and others yesterday evening. We got a feel it might be headed in that direction earlier in the day. Tech allegedly made a significantly higher NIL offer. That’s unsurprising. Orchestrated largely by mega-booster Cody Campbell, Tech has been extraordinarily aggressive in the transfer portal. Campbell appears to be trying to leave no stone unturned prior to the House Settlement announcement next week. They will clearly have the most talented overall roster in the Big 12 next season. At the end of the day, we’ll see how it turns out for Bailey and Tech. The Red Raiders still have an unp…

Sunday recruiting news and notes OnTexasFootball shares some recruiting news and notes from the last few days of unofficial visits. 5-star RB Derrek Cooper ... Cooper's multi-day visit to Texas was tremendous per two sources. The Longhorns are set to receive an official visit in June. Texas prefers a weekend OV, but Cooper would have to shuffle dates that are currently Miami May 30-June 2, Alabama June 6-8, Georgia June 13-15 and Ohio State June 20-22. He cancelled his mid-week Penn State visit during the Texas visit. 4-star++ CB/N Camren Hamiel ... The Goodyear (Az.) Desert Edge corner/nickel looks TERRIFIC on the hoof, for those that care. He'…

Texas Best Class Scenario: No. 1 finish possible The Texas Longhorns sit at 23 commitments with the No. 3 ranked class less than 24 hours before signing day.. And the Longhorns are in the hunt for the No. 1 ranked class. The latest Best Class Scenario lists 28 prospects with defensive line and linebacker still having a need. Elite prospects at EDGE and OT would be a class bonus, in a big way. Key note: This is NOT a prediction on how the class finishes, but the BCS. Quarterback (1) K.J. Lacey, QB, Saraland (Ala.) It’s official! Arch Manning’s blindside protection is returning to Texas for 2026. Trevor Goosby announces via Instagram that he will be back in burnt orange for his senior season, forgoing the NFL Draft where he had been receiving some day one projections after a fantastic conclusion to the season. On a day where Texas goes out and adds two all-conference talents from the portal, they hold onto their 1st Team All-SEC left tackle for one more season. As Texas turns all its attention towards building the offensive line in 2026, a massive domino falls with Goosby’s announcement. I would argue no one in Austin is having a better Sunday than Arch Mann…

Texas sports information released a note earlier today that six starters were having off-season surgery, including wide receiver Ryan Wingo, who dealt with an injured wrist from the Mississippi State game on. Despite the surgery, Wingo is NOT expected to miss spring ball. Trevor Goosby, Ty’Anthony Smith and Xavier Filsaime are expected to miss some or all of spring ball as each of them had shoulder surgeries. Arch Manning’s foot surgery is not expected to limit his availability for spring, according to the press release.

The Texas men’s tennis team won the Indoor National Championship yesterday defeating No. 2 ranked Ohio State, 4-2. It’s the first-ever national indoor championship for the men’s team and coach Bruce Berque. Senior Sebastian Gorzny, who is ranked no. 10 in the country and plays line one for Texas, recorded a doubles victory and won his singles match in straight sets. The Longhorns beat Texas A&M, TCU and Baylor to get to the finals. Congrats to Texas men’s tennis! Light the tower!!! ** I ranked the QBs of the SEC yesterday. I want to reiterate, the ranking was not a preseason power ranking. Rather, it was a prediction of where th…

The first week of March has almost come and gone – already, I know. However, that does mean we are one week closer to the beginning of spring football – or OTAs – or whatever you want to call them. Just know the full team, with coaches, will be on the field together here in the middle of March. As a result, I wanted to share one thing about each position group that I have heard so far from workouts. Just to start turning the focus from the NFL Combine back to what is happening on the 40 Acres here in Austin, Texas. *** Quarterback Arch Manning has taken the reigns as the leader of this team I have been told. Of course, I don't think many were exp…

The latest on Texas target Javion Hilson Cocoa Beach, Fla. - The Texas Longhorns are in a battle with Texas A&M for one of the top prospects in the country out of Cocoa High in Florida on the Space Coast. This is not a sentence I have typed up before. But here we are in the SEC. Cocoa High 4-star++ EDGE Javion Hilson attended the Texas vs. Georgia game October 19, and came right back to the Lone Star State a week later for the Texas A&M vs. LSU contest. After Cocoa High's blowout victory over rival Rockledge High Friday night, Hilson spoke with OnTexasFootball. As it turns out, he will be back in the Lone Star State November 30 (playoff schedule …

Lunchtime Recruiting Juice While you guys down Chick-fil-a, figured I would provide some juice to go with it. Texas securing Steve Sarkisian for another season certainly led the news cycle this weekend. It’s notable because Texas officially extended its two-time college football playoff coach. But what is more important to me is this: It shows that Sark definitely “wants” to be at Texas. As noted in the original report from Brett McMurphy of the Action Network, Sark easily could have tested the NFL waters but declined invitations to interview. That feels like a coach who knows what he wants, that remains entirely focused on the task at hand, that has a plan in place to get to where he wants to take the Texas program. ** General Manager Brandon H…

Fourteen 2027 in-state prospects that have my full attention The high school football season is almost upon us with teams beginning practice this week in the state. That means the Texas staff will be in a full evaluation mode, and out and about seeing juniors play live in September. Recruiting: The latest on top targets We are currently in an NCAA dead period of recruiting from August 1-31, unless 48 hours around a home football game. That means there is no face to face contact (on campus visits) until the season begins. With that said, Steve Sarkisian and staff are in contact daily, and sometimes multiple times, with a number of top targets on the board ahead of some impactful decisions. OnTexasFootball provides the latest on ten prospects with decisions coming before the end of September. Wide receiver Kaliq Lockett, WR, Sachse (Texas) High OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++ The finalists: Texas, Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU and…

Texas two-sport athlete Jonah Williams will undergo surgery to repair an injured shoulder that he sustained diving for a foul ball recently, his father confirms to OnTexasFootball. Orangebloods' Anwar Richardson was first to report the news. The University confirmed the news, via press release on Monday afternoon. Williams is expected to be ready for the 2026 football season. Williams is playing in his second season with the Longhorns' baseball team after joining the program as an early enrollee last year. The former five-star football recruit was batting .306, with a .414 OBP and .391 SLG before suffering the injury. He hasn't played since Friday of the USC U…

OTF percentage on 4-star Zelus Hicks Four-star safety Zelus Hicks (Carrollton, Ga./High) will announce his commitment September 12 out of Texas, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia and Clemson. Hicks, 6-2 and 185, visited Texas three times thus far during the recruiting process, including June 1 Elite Camp. Safeties coach Blake Gideon has been impactful for the Longhorns, with an assist from Kenny Baker and Tashard Choice. Both Baker and Choice have ties to staff members at Carrollton High. Based on intel since Tuesday afternoon/evening, I'm placing my percentage that Hicks picks Texas Thursday at 75%. Hicks offer list of 32, includes Texas, Tennessee, Georgi…

It is a huge week for Texas and more importantly Steve Sarkisian. Coming into the Red River Shootout as the No. 1 team in the land has been a rarity for the Texas Longhorns in the series history — though they will be adding a tally to that count on Saturday. Echoing what Bobby Burton said earlier today, Quinn Ewers has been healthy and practicing well for the last week and a half. Again, I am told if Miss State was Georgia or Oklahoma or Texas A&M, you would have seen Ewers on the field two weeks ago. It has been a strong week for Jaydon Blue as well. He has been focused and you can bet your bottom dollar the emphasis on ball control has been sky high for …

Will Texas make the NCAA Tournament? Texas pretty much faced a must win game Saturday against Georgia, and answered with a convincing 87-67 win. I am told that Texas continues to scour the portal ranks and is in contact with a couple of prospects. But who is left that the Horns can target? The Horns are looking for potential players at multiple positions. Defensive line continues to be a focus, but it's not the only one. The secondary and punter continue to be something to be on alert for. ** With the addition of Jay'Vion Cole, Texas now stands at 82 scholarship players. That means Steve Sarkisian has space for three more players to fill out the 85-man scholarship roster. This is where I am told we could see a slight alteration in the plan of attack here given the Horns have the roster spa…
