Which Texas team are we going to get tomorrow? While the offense has not exactly bathed itself in glory this season, it at least seems to be moving in the right direction of late. The defense, however, is a different story. In the first five games of the year, Texas was giving up 260 yards a game. In the last five, that figure is up to 375 yards a game. in other words, Texas has an improving offense with a defense headed in the opposite direction. 2026 RB Jett Walker Flips to Texas *** Texas is on the board with a commitment from 2026 Georgetown RB Jett Walker. Walker was on campus for an official visit over the weekend, and the news of his commitment comes shortly after returning home to Georgetown. The 6-foot-2 running back comes in around 210 pounds, and a very lengthy highlight tape. Walker averaged 10.3 yards per carry as a junior and has been a do it all back once again in 2025. While most think of Nick Townsend first among the duo of freshman tight ends, Winston is showing signs that he’s got a real future. - Safety Xavier Filsaime continues to take the next steps. Former Wake Forest WR Sterling Berkhalter Visiting Thursday *** Texas is hosting former Wake Forest wide receiver Sterling Berkhalter, OTF can confirm. The report was first made by 247Sports. The 6-foot-3-inch wide out received a medical waiver for a sixth year of eligibility last week, and the Longhorns worked quickly to get him on campus upon its approval. In 2025, Berkhalter hauled in 30 passes for the Demon Deacons, going for 416 receiving yards and 4 TD. The meeting with President Trump and multiple stakeholders across college sports is still set for tomorrow. There was also a meeting of A4 conference stakeholders Tuesday in Dallas who were listening to a pitch from private equity. And there is also a call from government for public comment on the Sports Broadcasting Act as well. In other words, wheels are in motion to “change” college sports. That’s great news. We live in a world gone mad. I can’t keep up with all the shenanigans going on in college sports. - There’s a rule proposal on the table that a college head coach would essentially be suspended for six games in a season if he takes a transfer player outside of the official transfer portal. The idea here is to stop coaches from circumventing transfer portal rules. Something has to be done. So maybe this is a workable solution. But the mere fact that it’s come to this to possibly get programs and coaches to adhere to the rules (or the expectations of the rules) gives you an idea of just how messed up the system is. Percentages on Texas official visitors last weekend The Texas Longhorns hosted nine defensive official visitors over the weekend, and the Longhorns would currently accept commitments from all of them. With the understanding that all recruitments aren't the same from an NIL and timeline standpoint. I want to focus on a few key moments in the fourth quarter. - Early in Q4, with Texas up just 13-7 and the Hogs moving the ball in Texas territory, Andrew Mukuba on a first down play finally made a key TFL. That play finally put Arkansas behind the chains. Texas currently has 24 commitments, and sitting inside the top 5 class rankings at No. 4. The Longhorns continue to look to the portal to fill roster holes and will host two visitors today. One of those visitors is LSU RHP Marcos Paz. Last season Paz posted a 1-4 record and 9.20 ERA in 17 appearances, including six starts, while racking up 40 strikeouts and 27 walks in 29.1 innings. Don't let the numbers fool you, however, as Paz is very talented and many other SEC schools have tried to get in on him, including Texas A&M and Georgia. Texas inside top 10 in ESPN way-too-early Top 25 hoops rankings ESPN released an updated way-too-early top 25 ranking for the 2026-27 college basketball season. The Longhorns will appear anywhere from No. 7 to 12 in all the preseason rankings. Gerry’s article yesterday reveals that Will Muschamp, Blake Gideon and Mark Orphey are far from settled on the starting lineup in the Texas secondary. Or even the rotational pieces.
