Starting With Arch There is something ironic and humorous that Arch’s first drive ended in an interception. The same way Quinn Ewers’ first drive as a starter ended in an interception. Both against ULM. There were good moments and there were bad moments. Fortunately, all of these learning moments came at a time where the game was never in question. The first INT was a poor decision, the second INT should have been a reception for Texas. Texas opens fall camp next week ahead of one of the most anticipated Longhorns football seasons that I can remember. Here are five questions for fall camp. These aren't the only five questions, but five of the most important that Jeff Howe and I came up with. 1.) Who emerges as LG1? The position battle everyone is watching closest this fall. The Longhorns have a wealth of options to choose from, but who will emerge out of Laurence Seymore, Cole Hutson, Jaydon Chatman, etc.? TBD. The recruitment of Lubbock Monterey standout Aaliyah Chavez continues to roll on with multiple schools anxiously awaiting a final decision from the nation's No. 1 overall player for 2025. Chavez is down to four schools: Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and South Carolina. She cut LSU from that list before January and just recently decided against UCLA as well. I'm told that South Carolina is an intriguing option, but the distance factor will play against them and they're the least likely of the four options as of now. Five-star eyeing another visit to Texas The Texas Longhorns pursuit of 5-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson (Loganville, Ga./Grayson) continues. Atkinson, 6-2.25 and 210-pounds, spoke with Tashard Choice and members of the Texas defensive staff prior to the Peach Bowl Wednesday. Texas and Atkinson have communication almost daily at this point, and have since June. Atkinson has been on campus in Austin twice, the Georgia game being the last time, and is expected back on campus in January or early in the spring. Five-star Mark Bowman locks in Texas official visit Five-star tight end Mark Bowman (Santa Ana, Calif.) Mater Dei tells onTexasFootball that he has locked in his official visit to Texas. Bowman, 6-foot-4.5 and 225-pounds, will make his official visit to Texas June 6-8. The recent re-class to 2026 from 2027 is also expected to make official visits to Georgia and Oregon. OTF expects the Longhorns to be in the final two when Bowman comes down to making a decision. Five-star defensive lineman and Texas Tech commit Jalen Brewster will officially visit Texas this weekend, a source confirms to OnTexasFootball. 247Sports' Mike Roach first reported the development. Brewster, who ranks as one of the top defensive linemen in the country out of Cedar Hill (Texas), has kept the door open on his recruitment despite his pledge to the Red Raiders. He officially visited LSU last weekend. The Longhorns don't have any interior defensive linemen committed to date. Five-star visitor expected Saturday According to a source close to the North Crowley High football program, the Texas Longhorns will host a 5-star unofficial visitor Saturday. North Crowley High 2026 offensive tackle John Turntine III is expected to be in Austin Saturday for the Longhorns spring game. Turntine III was offered by Texas October 28 while on campus for the game vs. BYU. He returned to campus with his father January 20 for the Texas Junior Day. Five-star visitor headed to Austin this weekend Five-star linebacker and current USC pledge Xavier Griffin (Gainesville, Ga./High) is scheduled to make an unofficial visit this weekend per a close to the recruitment. Texas linebacker coach Johnny Nansen and area recruiting Kenny Baker made a stop at Gainesville High in January, and have been in steady communication since. This will be the 6-foot-3.5, 215-pounders first visit to Texas this weekend. The plan for the Texas staff is to then secure a June official visit. Five-star visitor locked in for Thursday OnTexasFootball mentioned the potential of a Thursday unofficial visit by Galveston (Texas) Ball High 5-star ranked safety Jonah Williams. Around noon Saturday, OTF spoke with a family member of Williams', and the 6-3, 205 pound two-sport star will be on campus in Austin July 25 with at least one parent. Williams, a left handed outfield and pitcher, is currently in the Atlanta area playing in a wood bat tournament for top high high school baseball prospects in the 2025 cycle. Big news out of Duncanville. Five-star WR Dakorien Moore has decommitted from LSU and re-opened his recruitment. Moore had been committed to LSU since August 12, 2023, however there had always been plenty of whispers behind the scenes that Texas was not all too worried about the verbal pledge. Five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales will announce his decision at 11 a.m. CT on Friday, July 17. The decision will be broadcast on the Pat McAfee Show.
