The Texas Longhorns are back on the court this afternoon hosting a dismal Mississippi Valley State team. Texas is coming off an 105-58 victory over Chicago State with Tre Johnson leading all scorers with 19. Johnson was one of five players in double-figures, including a Texas career-high 18 by backup center Zy'Rik Onyema. Johnson is averaging 25.3 points per game through the first three games of his college career. He has converted 14 of 24 three-point attempts through three games. Our Bobby Burton did a great job of adding some light to the running back room earlier this morning here on OTF. As it did for Bobby, Steve Sarkisian's comments caught my attention in regards to additional reshuffling of some bodies to the running back room prior to the start of the season. While several players went home over the long weekend before returning yesterday afternoon, Texas receiver Ryan Wingo stayed in Austin to receive ongoing treatment for the thumb he dislocated against Vanderbilt. Wingo had made major progress during last week but he wanted to stay back in Austin to keep receiving treatment to make sure he’s as close to 100-percent as possible. The 6-0.5, 185-pounder will announce out of Texas and South Carolina, with Miami and FSU having hats on the table. I think some folks are starting to catch on. If Texas really wants a player, is willing to battle to the very end, then Texas has a pretty good shot in that recruitment. Yet if another team makes an out of range NIL offer, Texas simply won’t chase. Two wrongs don’t make a right, not when you’re trying to juggle adding elite players to your roster while also satisfying those already on it into the next season. That means - for Texas at least - it’s not a perfect hit rate for top-notch players. If you didn’t hear Colin Simmons post-game or Ethan Burke yesterday afternoon, you missed a real pleasure. The two veteran defensive ends were having none of the “woe is me” pity party about the Texas offense. Instead, they were genuinely excited about the “team” win in Lexington.
