Texas sits with nine commitments on April 29. Here’s five recruits OTF believes the Longhorns are trending for ahead of official visit season. Noah Roberts, 4-star RB, Chandler (Ariz.) Basha As OTF reported on April 18 following his second visit to Austin this spring, we feel the Longhorns are trending for the Grand Canyon State tailback, with Arizona State, Michigan, and Oregon in chase. Gerry Hamilton reported earlier this week a decision could come before July/August. Roberts will be back in Austin June 5-7 for his official visit. John Meredith III, 5-star CB, Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley Two visits to Austin in two weeks have Texas trending …

Red Zone Passing Attack – Who Eats? *** @Jeff Howe and I had an interesting conversation Tuesday evening on the Longhorn Livestream. It stemmed from seeing the dunk of Cam Coleman on Arch Manning’s instagram story of Cam Coleman throwing down a ridiculously athletic dunk at the Texas Basketball practice facility. It got me thinking. Which isn't always a good thing. We heard from Jelani McDonald this spring talk about when the offense moved the ball inside the 10-yard line, the ball was headed in the direction of Coleman. But who else might join Coleman in converting this red area throws – something that has been hit or miss over the past cou…

The 2027 NFL Draft hype rolls on. Yahoo's Nate Tice released his Top 25 prospects in the 2027 NFL Draft late Tuesday night. Among them he has four Longhorns in the top nine. Here's where Texas players land: No. 1 -- Arch Manning What Tice said: "Manning is an excellent athlete with size. He plays with a proper timing on plays when working from the pocket, but can also throw consistently on the move and has the toughness and core strength to get any throw off no matter his platform, or how muddy the pocket is, or how he is getting hit. He has a good arm that he unlocks because of his creativity, ability to anticipate, and willingness to push t…

Morning recruiting notes: Tues. 7:30am CT The Texas staff continues to be on the road seeing top targets one last time prior to June official visits. OTF brings some recruiting notes to begin Tuesday. Briceson Thrower ... Texas' top in-state wide receiver target made an OV to Illinois April 17-18, and the Illini have a legitimate shot here. The 6-3, 180-pounder and OTF 4-star+ prospect has OV's to Texas A&M the last weekend in May, Texas Tech June 5-7 and Texas June 12-14. Texas and Thrower had a long discussion over the weekend, and Texas wide receiver coach Chris Jackson is scheduled to be by the school Wednesday. The staff has left no doubt…

Afternoon recruiting nuggets OnTexasFootball brings some afternoon recruiting nuggets, to go with your Chick-Fil-A nuggets! John Meredith III Texas A&M knows Texas is trending for the 5-star cornerback out of North Crowley High (Fort Worth). The Aggies are attempting to do everything they can to slow the Longhorns momentum. OTF continues to believe Texas is ascending here, but the Longhorns still have to close this one out in a wild wild west NIL world. OTF also wouldn't be surprised if Alabama fell off, and didn't end up getting an OV. That would mean a Texas vs. Texas A&M decision at the end of the day. Noah Roberts The 4-star+ RB out o…

After arguably the best transfer portal run in men's college basketball this offseason, 2026-27 looks like it could be a special year for the Texas Longhorns. ESPN released its Way-Too-Early Top 25 this week, with the Longhorns checking in at No. 7, up from No. 13 earlier in the offseason. Here's ESPN's rationale: "Sean Miller and the Longhorns had arguably the best portal class of any program in the country, landing two of the best transfers available in Colorado point guard Isaiah Johnson and TCU forward David Punch, along with top-100 options Mikey Lewis (St. Mary's) and Elyjah Freeman (Auburn). Those arrivals combine with incoming top-20 guard Austin Goosb…

The Shift from Shortstop QBs to Point Guard QBs **** This has been a conversation I have had for a few months now regarding Steve Sarkisian's quarterback room. For those who have been on streams with Rod Babers and myself, you likely have heard us talk a bit about this topic. For years, the quarterback position has evolved from statues in the pocket to increased mobility, almost to the point where you are playing with an arm tied behind your back if your starting quarterback is unable to escape, extend and create. As a result, the off-balance, wacky arm angles have become a riveting part of the game. In the mid-to-late 2010's the NFL saw a sweep of qua…

AUSTIN, Texas — UT tight end commit JT Geraci was back in town for the Longhorns’ final spring practice earlier this month. The Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep is one of the longest tenured 2027 pledges in the Texas class. “Just getting to enjoy it a little bit more, kind of see how I fit in the offense,” Geraci told reporters afterwards. “Seeing the spring game today, it was awesome to see how Coach (Jeff) Banks was using the tight ends in lots of different packages. I was just talking with him about how I fit in the offense. It’s just exciting knowing that they have a plan for me when I get down here.” Asked about his fit in the Texas offense … “Kind of si…

With the news today that the NCAA is pushing forward a vote for the 5-seasons-to-play-5-years rule, I wanted to check in with a source at Texas about what that means for the two players it could effect for the Horns, transfer OL Laurence Seymore and LB Darius Snow. It is the current belief that neither Seymore nor Snow would be effected by the ruling because they have already been approved by the NCAA for the additional year. It is the belief, however, that players who have not been approved yet by the NCAA, or those who are only eligible because of legal injunctions, could be effected by the ruling. We'll see what that means for the likes of Ole Miss' Trin…

A thought to start the week While following the NFL draft over the weekend, one thing became very clear. Lane Kiffin did a terrific job at Ole Miss (until he left lol) in 2025. Sometimes you just have to give credit where credit is due. But in doing so, one can also dive into the why. And that why is what I believe will be the reason Texas can truly ascend in 2026, and it's so much more than being a very talented team. The NFL Draft ... The NFL Draft always brings up the discussion of talent on college teams. And there is merit in the discussion. For me, being very talented provides a team with more margin for error in theory. And that has been proven out ov…

The Five Out of State Prospects Catching My Eye *** Another cycle, another opportunity for the Texas Longhorns to cast a nationwide net when it comes to recruiting. The Longhorns have nine commits in the bag already for the class of 2027, with two coming from outside of the state lines with JT Geraci from New Jersey and Easton Royal from Louisiana. A year ago the Longhorns ended with 12 signees who called somewhere other than the Lone Star State home. Will Texas get to that number again in 2027? It remains to be seen. But a figure close to double digits is certainly in the cards once again. *** Kasi Currie, DL, Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Cany…

Texas 2023 No. 3 ranked class in focus after first NFL Draft eligible year The Texas Longhorns signed a top 5 ranked class in 2023. The class was headlined by Arch Manning, along with Anthony Hill Jr., Cedric Baxter Jr., Malik Muhammad and Johntay Cook. The class had the first two draft picks over the weekend. It was the first year the class of 2023 was draft eligible. OnTexasFootball takes a look at where the class is headed into the 2026 season. The class Texas signed 25 prospects in the 2023 class. Eleven will still be with the program for the 2026 season. Two were just drafted, and 12 have transferred out. Two have been drafted Anthony…

Best Class Scenario: April 22 The Texas staff has wrapped up visits around spring practice, and have now turned attention to the spring evaluation period with more 2027 offers likely to go out. With that said, the Texas staff already has over 50 official visits on the books for June and prospects are beginning to separate at some positions. Headed into May, it's time to start ramping up the Best Class Scenario for the 2027 class. This list is a combination of shooting for the stars and the most likely scenario with positions to build the BCS. We begin with 25 prospects, with the understanding with 105 scholarships there will likely be 2-3 more developmenta…

With the Miami Dolphins selecting three Longhorns, Trey Moore, DJ Campbell and Michael Taaffe, I thought it would be interesting to find out exactly who the GM is for the Dolphins. Hint: he helped pick Matthew Golden a year ago. Here's his bio: Jon-Eric Sullivan was named general manager of the Miami Dolphins on Jan. 9, 2026. The 2026 campaign will mark his 23rd season in the NFL and his first with Miami. Sullivan brings more than two decades of scouting and player evaluation experience to Miami, having spent the past 22 seasons with the Green Bay Packers (2004-2025), most recently as the team's vice president of player personnel. He helped the Packers…

BOOM: All-WCC 1st team CG Mikey Lewis commits to Texas Sean Miller and staff have done it again. Texas went into the week with the No. 2 ranked portal class, and a consensus preseason top 10 team ranking following the work in the portal. Well, the class and 2026-27 team got better again Thursday. St. Mary’s transfer starting combo guard Mikey Lewis announced he has committed to the Texas Longhorns after making visits to Vanderbilt, Oregon, Washington and Oklahoma. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound junior to be played two seasons at St. Mary’s, including starting all 33 games for the Gaels in 2025-26. Lewis was named All-West Coast Conference First Team …

After winning out for lead guard Isaiah Johnson and 4-man David Punch in week one, the Longhorns added a key piece week two in off ball guard Amari Evans. The portal additions (to this point): April 11 - Isaiah Johnson, lead guard, Colorado - OTF projects Johnson as a future 1st/2nd round NBA draft pick April 12 - David Punch, PF, TCU - OTF projects Punch as a future 2nd round NBA draft pick April 17 - Amari Evans, G, Tennessee - OTF projects Evans as a four year player that improves his offensi…

Texas sent half a dozen more Longhorns to the NFL this weekend, marking another impressive feat for the program since the beginning of the Steve Sarkisian era. Here’s what the UT head coach said about each of Texas’ draft picks. Anthony Hill Jr. Round 2, Pick 60 — Tennessee Titans Sark: “I’m really excited for Anthony. He played a ton of great football for us, worked and got better every year, and has a lot of great football ahead of him. Ant’s a really versatile football player. He’s a guy who can play off the ball linebacker and rush off the edge. I think he's a three-down player in the NFL. He's going to be a great addition to the Tennessee Titans, an…

Texas linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. is the first Longhorn off the board in the 2027 NFL Draft, headed to the Tennessee Titans with the 60th overall pick in the second round. Hill, a former five-star recruit from Denton (Texas) Ryan, has been projected in the second round for much of the draft process after a stellar career in Burnt Orange. Hill burst onto the scene as a true freshman on the road at Alabama, recording six tackles and two sacks. Hill went on to start 32 of 40 game at Texas, racking up 249 tackles, including 31.5 tackles for a loss, 17 sacks, eight forced fumbles, seven pass breakups, three interceptions and two fumbles recoveries. His 2025 season …

Texas tight end Jack Endries is off the board to the Cincinnati Bengals with the 221st pick in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft. After an impressive start to his career at Cal catching passes from Fernando Mendoza, Endries spent one season with the Longhorns in 2025, catching 33 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns. Endries finished the season on a high note, catching a pair of passes for 49 yards against Arkansas, four grabs for 93 yards against Texas A&M, and five catches for 35 yards and a touchdown against Michigan in the Citrus Bowl. The former walk-on came to Austin with high billing, starting 26 games at Cal, amassing 1,030 yards over two seasons in…

Yesterday afternoon, I wrote about the movement during spring on the offensive side of the ball, what we learned, what we didn’t, etc. Now it’s time to do the same for the defense. Nose tackle Ian Geffrard is indeed the answer Texas was looking for. He’s got SEC experience and may have been a diamond in the rough playing for an underwhelming Arkansas squad. Maraad Watson also showed better in his second year on campus as did Josiah Sharma. Post-spring, this is a more talented position than some would have thought going into it. Defensive tackle Surprisingly, Hero Kanu has effectively asserted himself as a team leader. He was already one of the squ…

Happy Friday! *** We are one day away from the weekend, which means we are one week closer to the start of the football season. With the spring completely wrapped up, it's a good chance to look at the expectations for the fall after four weeks of practices. Building off of the post I made earlier this week regarding how I feel about each position room, I will add overall expectations for the rooms this afternoon. *** Quarterback: All-Conference level play is the Floor Arch Manning did not receive any All-SEC honors following his 2025 season, which I don't entirely dispute. However, the second half of the season, there weren't many quarterback…
