  1. Notes from Practice this morning at Denius Texas will be fully padded on Tuesday, by the way. *** CB Samari Matthews was on the main field with the Longhorns Monday, which is noteworthy. Smoke previously spent the first few sessions of fall camp on the back fields at Denius with the injured/limited players. *** Some notes on the running game, given Texas ran the football 16 consecutive times during the team running session. There is a clear emphasis on establishing physicality after listening to Sarkisian on Monday. It all starts in the trenches. – Michael Masunas was a standout on offense for his run blocking ability. Rushing lanes were cre…

  3. Best Class Scenario: June 28 It's time for the latest Best Class Scenario for the 2027 class as the calendar is close to turning to July. Following three weekends of official visits, the scenarios for the class headed into the season are pretty clear. The Longhorns are currently comfortably inside the top 10 class rankings, with the ability to ascend as high as No. 2. The latest Best Class Scenario includes 25 prospects with Texas likely to end up with 22-23 in the class by August. Texas won't get them all, but the Longhorns are headed for another top 5 ranked class by the season. QB (1) Tyler Knutson, QB, Spring Branch (Texas) Smithson Valley #Al…

  4. A pair of big boy recruitments are set to finalize soon. Indianapolis WR Monshun Sales, a top 10 player in the country, is slated to choose between Texas and Indiana on Friday afternoon. The Longhorns remain in the mix. Neither team has been told yes or no as of yesterday and communication lines remain open. The Longhorns are hopeful but I think it's important to stop short of saying optimistic. The Horns are well aware of the high stakes here and how recruitments like these can come down to the wire. Landen Williams-Callis, the state's top running back, publicized yesterday that he will announce his decision August 1. A national report also mentioned …

  5. A massive win for the Texas Longhorns! 2027 Brother Martin (La.) WR Easton Royal has committed to Texas following the win over Texas A&M. Royal was on campus for the second time in four weeks last night and was able to take in the environment as a result. A decision to commit to Texas comes one day after. I saw Royal in the spring, he is a legit option for being the top WR in the country. Runs 10.3 and is spectacular off the field as well. View full news story

  7. First up … Miami DL transfer Donta Simpson (Hollywood, Fla./Chaminade-Madonna) is scheduled to visit Texas Tuesday. The Texas visit will be followed by trips to Illinois, Washington and possibly SMU. ————— And on Wednesday, LSU NG transfer Zion Williams (Lufkin, Texas/High) is scheduled to visit Texas. The 6-4, 350-pounder went into the portal with a no contact tag. Should Texas make this offer, it would be as a development NG to add more size over the ball to go with Ian Geffrard and Josiah Sharma. View full news story

  8. SEC Hoops: Mid-week NCAA Tournament look Texas won, and advanced Tuesday night beating LSU 88-85. It wasn't pretty, and it was the first game in a while Texas struggled down the stretch making key free throws (Texas had shot 82.5% from the foul line the last nine games). With the win, the Longhorns are now 8-5 in SEC play. That means Sean Miller's squad is one win away from being a virtual lock to be part of the NCAA Tournament. The reasons are pretty clear why that is the case. Texas has 5 Quad 1 wins, are ranked in the top 35 by most NCAA Tournament projection metrics. While Texas has won five SEC games in a row to vault to being inside the bubble line, the r…

Texas is looking to add to its trophy case with Kelvin Banks being named a finalist for the Outland Award and Jahdae Barron being named a finalist for the Thorpe. But the Texas offensive line is a finalist for the Joe Moore and Pete Kwiatkowski has a finalist for the Broyles award as well. Buckle up! Should be a good night. View full news story

  10. The Ramblin' Wreck of Georgia Tech has crashed into the Texas coaches office and taken off with associate head coach and safeties coach Blake Gideon. As first reported by Matt Zenitz, Georgia Tech will name Gideon their new defensive coordinator. Gideon was hired by Steve Sarkisian in 2021 from Ole Miss where he was the special teams coordinator. In the four years at Texas, he helped turn around a safeties room from a unit that allowed one of the highest bust percentage in the country to a back-to-back College Football Playoff Semifinal unit. Texas will look to make a new addition to the coaches staff, something Steve Sarkisian has done a tremendous job of …

  11. What will the week hold for the Longhorns? OnTexasFootball had mentioned since late last week that 4-star+ offensive tackle Felix Ojo (Mansfield, Texas/Lake Ridge) was a strong possibility to announce July 4 due to it being his birth day. Ojo did announce Monday that he intends to announce a decision July 4. That provides another opportunity for the Longhorns to have a positive week on the recruiting trail. With the news Monday that Florida has gotten very aggressive in the recruitment of 4-star++ defensive lineman Kendall Guervil (Fort Myers, Fla./High), Texas faces even more pressure to deliver a positive week. OnTexasFootball takes a look at the week…

  13. Started by Bobby Burton,

Yesterday’s media availability was somewhat typical for Steve Sarkisian. He was cordial and thoughtful. But I felt like there was a sense of focus there, too. The Texas coach thinks he’s got his guys prepared. Yet when asked whether he thought this was a championship caliber club, he said he didn’t know. He said that they had to go out there and prove it. And that sums up my feelings, too. We’ve chronicled all off season just how talented this Texas squad is, from top to bottom. From a number one ranked class to the return of difference makers like Colin Simmons and Anthony Hill, to the debut of Arch Manning. Sark and his coaching and personnel staff h…

We’re here at the Fair so early this morning that I don’t even smell the fried food or stale beer quite yet. But in a couple of hours, this place will be packed with Longhorns and Sooners alike. I’ve said all week I think the Longhorns find a way to pull out a victory. I don’t know exactly how, but just call it a feeling. ** Texas fans should harbor no illusions today. Arch Manning was hit hard and often in Gainesville. The Gators racked up 35 pressures and six sacks. You can bet the Sooners will likely have similar success. But remember, Texas also scored 21 points in Gainesville. Texas may not be an offense that moves the chains, …

  16. No. 22 Texas at Mississippi State Game Week Thread Texas heads to Starkville Friday for a Saturday afternoon game against an improved Mississippi State team under head coach Jeff Lebby. The Longhorns have been poor on the road in SEC play on offense in two games with the performance in Lexington as bad as the program has seen since 2015. The Bulldogs are riding the longest SEC conference games losing streak, but they have been right there with chances beat Tennessee in Starkville and last weekend in Gainesville. Either they are or they aren’t. Texas is either good enough as a team to go into Starkville today and beat Mississippi State or they aren’t. Yes, Texas has been less than stellar this year. The offense is a clear work in progress that seems to have regressed more recently. Whether that’s on the O-line, the QB, or the play-caller, it’s irrelevant. The defense and special teams have largely carried the team to a 5-2 record. Furthermore, Mississippi State is no longer the worst team in the conference, even though they’ve lost 15 consecutive conference contests. They beat Arizona State in Starkville earlier this year and took Tennessee to overtime as well. They…

  18. Recruiting Coaching carousel 2026 targets The Texas staff is buys working the phones on a number of prospects in the 2026 cycle that have been impacted by the coaching carousel. OnTexasFootball takes a look at who some of the top targets will be. The early list ... Richard Anderson, DL, New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr - Make no mistake, the LSU defensive line commit is at the top of any position for the Longhorns. Texas has been in contact all season, and he's arguably the best DL prospect in the country. Texas will try to get him on campus in November, but so will many others. Micah Smith, OT, Vero Beach (Fla.) High - The UCLA commit has already b…

  20. Started by Bobby Burton,

I try not to be reactionary. I really do. Since starting On Texas Football, I have attempted to approach covering the team with a level-headedness that speaks to my long experience in this business. I try to be the voice of reason when so many sites are focused on click bait headlines or pointless b.s. debates. But something happened yesterday that Steve Sarkisian appropriately called out in his post-game press conference and I want to address it. The Athletic article, which reported Steve Sarkisian is putting his name out there to NFL teams, spread like wildfire across the internet and onto television airwaves. We posted it on our message board a…

  21. Started by Bobby Burton,

Texas is currently on a four-game win streak. That's tied with Georgia for the third longest current win-streak in the league behind only A&M and Alabama. During that streak, we've seen a team that is maturing, especially on offense. And we've seen a team that is consistently showing a spine when times get tough. No, the journey hasn't been perfect, including Saturday's win over Vandy. But no team's season has been. Georgia has been tied or behind in five of their six conference games going into halftime. Alabama put up a stinker versus a hapless Florida State to start the year. A&M won by three in Fayetteville against a Razorback squad who remains …

  22. Started by Bobby Burton,

Texas may be without two of its best players on Saturday for the game against Arkansas. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said yesterday that both linebacker Anthony Hill and receiver Ryan Wingo are being evaluated for hand injuries. Both were still being evaluated as of Sark’s press conference yesterday. ** Arkansas was trying to hire former Penn State coach James Franklin to replace Sam Pittman. But Franklin chose Virginia Tech instead. In the new world of college football, Franklin chose the job he felt like could be a more winnable long-term situation. There may be no more tougher positioned job in Power 4 college football right now than Arkans…

  23. Started by Bobby Burton,

Not sure how many of you watched the OU-Alabama game last night. The Sooners lost 34-24 after going up 17-0. Quarterback John Mateer was the focal point of an OU offense that scored just seven points over the final 40 minutes of the game and threw a pick six that completely changed the complexion of the game. ** So this is what I want to discuss this morning: If you were the GM of OU, would you bring Mateer back for 2026? Mateer led the Sooners to a 10-2 regular season record and into the CFP. And he could return to Norman next season. On the other side of the coin, guys like Sam Leavitt of Arizona State and Brendan Sorsby of Cincinnati …

  24. BOOM! Texas has landed another commitment, this time from Dallas South Oak Cliff offensive tackle Brian Swanson. At 6-foot-5.5, 305 pounds, Swanson chose the Longhorns over Oklahoma and SMU amongst three dozen other offers. The State Champion offensive tackle gave the good news to the Texas staff on his official visit before going public with the decision on Wednesday. OTF caught up with Swanson on Monday morning to hear his thoughts on why he committed to the Longhorns. “I chose Texas because it felt like home and I believe they can develop me into the best offensive lineman I can be. 25. BOOM! Texas has landed another commitment, this time from Orange (Calif.) Lutheran offensive lineman Lucas Rhoa. At 6-foot-5, 305 pounds, Rhoa chose the Longhorns over UCLA, Oregon, and Penn State amongst over two dozen other offers. Rhoa joins Dallas South Oak Cliff OT Brian Swanson, Columbus IOL Keyon Hemphill-Woods, and Austin Westlake IOL Jackson Cook as the fourth offensive lineman in the Longhorns’ 2027 class.
