A few nuggets from the week of practice leading up to the Red River Shootout on Saturday. *** First, the expectation is freshman Nick Brooks trots out for the first offensive drive of the game. Brooks has been the primary recipient of left guard snaps all week in practice. As for the offensive line in general, they know their backs are against the wall. Will that ignite an improved performance? We will see. But when comments are made throughout the week praising scout team defensive linemen and their ability to create havoc plays behind the line of scrimmage, it doesn't inspire much confidence. – Additionally, freshman WR Michael Terry III was on…

Texas is expected to hire Chad Scott as its next running backs coach, sources tell On Texas Football. Scott’s name was first reported as a possibility by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. Apparently an outlet has recently reported that Texas defensive back Jonah Williams was hurt in practice. I've checked with a couple of sources on this and I'm told that Williams is practicing. He did suffer a minor setback last week, but it was not serious. Texas was off yesterday, but he's been a full participant in practice. Jonah is also expected to try and balance both football and baseball this spring. He most likely won't be a full participant in spring football, however.

Often recruiting can look desperate, almost ham-handed, where coaches and player personnel management throw spaghetti at the wall (see: Oklahoma). Not the 2025 Texas Longhorns in the spring transfer portal. Steve Sarkisian, Brandon Harris and the Texas staff have struck with the precision of a surgeon’s scalpel. Yesterday the Longhorns earned the signatures of three highly sought portal transfers. Cal tight end Jack Endries entered the portal early Wednesday. By Wednesday night, Endries was already on the Texas campus making an official visit. The most sought after tight end in the 2025 portal window, Endries totaled 56 catches a year ago as the Golden…

A quick note from Saturday's scrimmage. C Jake Majors was not a participant in the scrimmage this morning due to an ankle sprain. I was told Majors has not been active for much of the week leading up to the scrimmage and the staff opted to keep him sidelined for this morning's action. As a result, it was Hayden Conner who was bumped inside to the center position and Cole Hutson who took over the left guard duties. So your starting OL looked like this from left to right: Banks–Hutson-Conner-Campbel-Williams View full news story

Monshun Sales and LW-C Five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales (Indianapolis, In./Lawrence North) is set to announce his decision July 17 on the Pat McAfee show. OTF continues to believe the decision will come down Indiana vs. Texas, and the decision will have an an impact nationally. OTF takes a look at the impact of the next two decisions to be announced. Impact of Sales decision ... Should Sales announce for Indiana or Texas, as expected, it will be impactful on on both teams future WR rooms down the line in the 2027 season. That will be talked about more in depth after he announced his decision. Headed into the decision, it's all about how the 5…

Texas Hoops Report: Summer standouts The Texas Longhorns have begun summer workouts with new strength and conditioning coach Darby Rich having been announced by the university. The team has been going through testing, S&C workouts, on court workouts and has begun playing 5v5 with the entire team now in Austin. OTF provides some notes from the summer thus far. Guards turning heads The guard on the Texas team as a whole are expected to be on another level than last season. That's not a surprise to hear from a pure talent versatility and length stand point. For the first time in 2026, Texas Baseball will take this field this afternoon at Disch Falk for the first practice of the season. The Longhorns have an absolutely loaded roster and expectations are high (including from myself). Perfect Game gave the Horns a No. 8 pre-season ranking. Personally, I think that's too low. D1Baseball has ranked Texas a No. 3 ranking, which I feel is just right. I'd say you can argue for them to be ranked anywhere in the Top 5. I've said it since the fall, but if this team stays healthy, they should be one of the best in the nation. Regardless, my opinion is irrelevant, so let's get on to the notes: - Let's go ahead and knock…

Texas Basketball: Movement soon? In the last 24 hours nothing has changed, other than having a wildly fun thread around the search! Today's should be another doozy! Same song, second verse. OnTexasFootball continues to believe that Rodney Terry has coached his last game at Texas. OTF also believes that Sean Miller continues to be frontrunner to be the next head coach at Texas, barring a unicorn like hire seriously emerging. The frontrunner ... Sean Miller continues to be the frontrunner to be the next coach in Austin. Miller's teams have advanced to the Sweet 16 or better in eight of 13 tournament appearances in his career. Age: 56 Career…

Manning was quickly escorted to the locker room following the game and was not made available for post game availabilities following a gnarly hit he took on the first play of overtime. More tests and treatment to come tomorrow. Steve Sarkisian said in the post game press conference, “We'll have an update for you Monday." View full news story

A few quick hitters to start your day. - Yesterday, by all accounts, went as well as it possibly could. A high school commitment and a portal commitment both went public. - The commitment of Arizona State’s Ethan Mendoza is huge. He will immediately push for a starting role. - Flipping Bryce Navarre from Texas A&M was another big time get. One of the top players in the state. His breaking ball is elite and his variety of pitches is nothing short of great. - More visitors will be on campus today, including prospects currently committed elsewhere. - Don’t be surprised if something happens today, commitment wise. Not saying it will for su…

Roster Numbers by Position *** Things are obviously very fluid in the portal at the moment and additional movement is expected both in from the portal and out to the portal. But for now, here is where things stand going into 2026. *** Italics for true freshmen. Quarterback (3) Arch Manning KJ Lacey Dia Bell A Matthew Caldwell-type of portal addition remains likely. Running Back (6) Christian Clark James Simon Michael Terry III Ryan Niblett Derrek Cooper Jett Walker Two back expected out of the portal. Eyeing a departure still. Wide Receiver (8) …

We remain on Monshun Sales watch entering the new week. As OTF has reported, we believe this is more Indiana vs. Texas of late as the five-star receiver works towards a commitment. There's no decision date set, but we continue to look at July 10 as a good marker for when there could be some finality to Sales' process. Talking to a source on Monday, communication remains ongoing between Sales and the Longhorns staff, including a lengthy conversation on Sunday. If should be reiterated that Texas is treating Sales as a priority target they would like to add to the class. The staff has been greatly impressed by how the star recruit has carried himself through the …

Needs left to be filled in 2026 class The Texas Longhorns are coming off a rough week on the recruiting trail losing out on three guys the staff will recruit through the whistle in December. This week, Texas awaits three decisions that the staff has been in a solid position for since the spring or prior. With a number of decisions on deck the first half of July, OnTexasFootball takes a look at what positional needs have been filled and what remains for the Longhorns. Quarterback Texas is done at the position with 5-star Dia Bell in the fold. Running back Texas has signed two RB classes in each of the last three classes. The Longhorns have major…

With the season coming to a close, it’s time for Jim Schlossnagle and his staff to move on and look to the future. Now it’s all about building on this past season and improving for the future. The NCAA baseball portal window officially opened on June 1st and it will run through July 2nd. As of Monday afternoon, I am expecting the Horns to lose at least four players to the portal. One of those has already been announced in outfielder Matt Scott. It is worth nothing that Scott was not on the postseason roster. The other three names will be along those lines as well. Not difference makers at this point in time. Now that’s not to say more will not enter, b…

If you’re going in to an office this morning, and happen to have an Aggie co-worker, make sure to grin and tell them hello. 😉 ** Texas now waits for the CFP committee’s Tuesday night rankings release. Neither the AP nor the Coaches Poll gave much credence to the Horns’ win over Texas A&M. Texas jumped just a couple of spots in both. I’m not sure how that happens. Sure, almost every team (except the Aggies) ahead of them won. But it would seem that soundly defeating the no. 3 team in the nation should cause some of the committee members to re-think their original bias against Texas. Remember one line of committee thinking was that Texas only beat OU…

RB Raleek Brown Commits to Texas *** Texas jumps back on the board with a commitment from former Arizona State running back Raleek Brown! Brown arrived on campus Wednesday and early Thursday morning he breaks the news that he will be joining the Texas Longhorns for the 2026 season. A much needed addition to the running back room for the Longhorns, and for the program in general. Brown rushed for 1141 yards on 6.1 yards an attempt last year for the Sun Devils.
