A few nuggets from the week of practice leading up to the Red River Shootout on Saturday. *** First, the expectation is freshman Nick Brooks trots out for the first offensive drive of the game. Brooks has been the primary recipient of left guard snaps all week in practice. As for the offensive line in general, they know their backs are against the wall. Will that ignite an improved performance? We will see. Tonight, the Longhorns will take the court in a very hostile environment against 20th ranked Arkansas (21-8, 11-5), led by terrific freshman Darius Acuff Jr. Texas will once again be without backup center Lassina Traore, who is out with knee soreness. Texas is expected to hire Chad Scott as its next running backs coach, sources tell On Texas Football. Scott’s name was first reported as a possibility by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. Scott, 43, spent the last six seasons at West Virginia. He was the team’s offensive coordinator for the last two. He is a North Carolina grad, playing running back for the Tar Heels and is a native of Plant City, Fla. We’ll have more as the story develops. View full news story

Apparently an outlet has recently reported that Texas defensive back Jonah Williams was hurt in practice. I've checked with a couple of sources on this and I'm told that Williams is practicing. He did suffer a minor setback last week, but it was not serious. Texas was off yesterday, but he's been a full participant in practice. Jonah is also expected to try and balance both football and baseball this spring. He most likely won't be a full participant in spring football, however.

A quick note from Saturday's scrimmage. C Jake Majors was not a participant in the scrimmage this morning due to an ankle sprain. I was told Majors has not been active for much of the week leading up to the scrimmage and the staff opted to keep him sidelined for this morning's action. As a result, it was Hayden Conner who was bumped inside to the center position and Cole Hutson who took over the left guard duties. Texas Hoops Report: Summer standouts The Texas Longhorns have begun summer workouts with new strength and conditioning coach Darby Rich having been announced by the university. For the first time in 2026, Texas Baseball will take this field this afternoon at Disch Falk for the first practice of the season. The Longhorns have an absolutely loaded roster and expectations are high (including from myself). Perfect Game gave the Horns a No. 8 pre-season ranking. Personally, I think that's too low. D1Baseball has ranked Texas a No. 3 ranking, which I feel is just right. I'd say you can argue for them to be ranked anywhere in the Top 5. OTF can confirm reports of Manning being treated for a concussion. Manning was quickly escorted to the locker room following the game and was not made available for post game availabilities following a gnarly hit he took on the first play of overtime. We remain on Monshun Sales watch entering the new week. As OTF has reported, we believe this is more Indiana vs. Texas of late as the five-star receiver works towards a commitment. There's no decision date set, but we continue to look at July 10 as a good marker for when there could be some finality to Sales' process. With the season coming to a close, it’s time for Jim Schlossnagle and his staff to move on and look to the future. Now it’s all about building on this past season and improving for the future. The NCAA baseball portal window officially opened on June 1st and it will run through July 2nd. As of Monday afternoon, I am expecting the Horns to lose at least four players to the portal.
