As I wrote last night, there remain several players who Texas has recruited whose paperwork had either not been signed or not been appropriately filed with their schools of choice as of late yesterday. Those players include: WR Jalen Lott - Lott has communicated to Oregon that it’s a paperwork issue and not something to be concerned about. Yet he officially remains unsigned. Over the Next Month *** The stage is set for the Texas postseason – Michigan awaits in the Citrus Bowl on December 31st. For the next 24 days, there will be plenty to watch and keep track of. Portal decisions will be, NFL opt outs will be announced and coaching turnover are all on the line ahead of the trip to Orlando at the end of the month. Of those NFL decisions that will be made is the future of S Jelani McDonald. A source indicated to me that there is a belief that McDonald could return to Texas for his senior season should the NIL number be competitive. Texas nickels Keynodo Hudson is not expected to return to the team in 2026. This is the first move of a couple dominoes expected to fall which will likely extend down to analysts as well. That move came as of Friday morning, just two days after the Longhorns defeated Michigan in the Citrus Bowl to conclude the 2025 season. Hudson arrived at the beginning of the 2024 season as a defensive analyst for the Texas defense, and was promoted ahead of the 2025 season as a full-time on-field coach for the Texas secondary where he primarily focused on coaching the nickels. I’m not sure if folks read the article in The Athletic yesterday. But for those who didn’t, an opposing coach basically went all-in on the Texas portal transfer class. And not in a good way. The coach questioned the running back additions, the addition of Rasheem Biles, the price paid for Cam Coleman and more. Every comment was ripe with skepticism. Most important coaching week for Sark since November of 2021 After an awful fourth quarter and yet another loss to Georgia, Steve Sarkisian now faces his toughest coaching task since November of 2021. Not just his toughest, but easily most important. While that may seem extreme because it was year one, this is a true "culture" test and will be very telling about the future of the program under Sarkisian. Thursday's Positivity Thinking *** 5. Linebacker Duo There is plenty of excitement around the linebacking duo of TyAnthony Smith and Rasheem Biles. Both find ways to make plays on the football and the havoc levels are throughout the roof when it comes to creating pressure and forcing takeaways. While responding to a fan at the Houston Touchdown Club, Steve Sarkisian gruffed about the non-conference schedule and conference schedule of an unnamed college football team in the state of Texas. I've read way too much bs over the last 24 hours. Texas got beat on a recruit. Yes. Was it a tough loss? Absolutely. Have there been others, too? Portal: Some early names to know It's here! Texas is hosting a pair of visitors out of the portal today. Purdue transfer Max Klare (TE) and Cole Brevard (DL); and Utah transfer Jake Bouwmeester (P) are on campus in Austin. The Longhorns hit the ground running after returning from Omaha and wasted no time getting right back to the portal. Texas began hosting St. Mary's catcher Ian Armstrong yesterday and Kent State outfielder Sawyer Solitaria will arrive this morning. Steve Sarkisian National Signing Day Press Conference *** Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is meeting with the media following the first day of National Signing Day. The Longhorns – for now – have inked 23 signees and continue to position themselves to add to the class and to turn focus for the transfer portal. Jack Endries Declares for 2026 NFL Draft *** News out of Austin Friday afternoon: Texas tight end Jack Endries has declared for the 2026 NFL Draft. Endries, a one year transfer out of Cal, started all 12 games for the Longhorns this season. On the season, Endries hauled in 33 receptions for 346 yards and three touchdowns. The most impactful game of the season for Endries came in the final weekend of the regular season against Texas A&M where Endries went for a season-high 93 receiving yards. We’ve all heard some of the hyperbolic recruiting platitudes the last few weeks espoused by a few writers and reporters. According to some, Texas Tech is “dominating” the state “like never before”. A&M is “off to a great start with five stars”. There’s a “Fong Bomb” of a player going here or there. It’s almost funny. It feels like a concerted media effort by those who are fed information from those very programs. Actually, that’s exactly what it is.
