- Volantis didn’t have the best game by any stretch of the imagination, but he was still good. Him giving up four lead off hits is not like him at all, but he didn’t get rattled. Not to mention he was in multiple high pressure situations and still delivered. - I thought it was interesting that Schloss and Max have had a tight leash on pitchers all season, but Volantis had an extremely long one all night, going 106 pitches and 5.1 innings. Texas has landed a commitment from North Forney (Texas) three-star wide receiver Briceson Thrower Jr. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound wideout announced his decision on Saturday evening, choosing the Longhorns over Illinois, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and a long list of others. Saturday news and notes: At the softball celebration last night, I came away with a few interesting thoughts. - First, I’ve seen enough of team sports through the years that I feel like I can easily tell when the camraderie of a team is particularly strong and genuine. The Longhorns are gearing up to host Oregon in the Austin Super Regional, with the first game starting tomorrow night at 7:00 PM (televised on ESPN). I checked in with numerous sources to get the latest on where things stand with Jim Schlossnagle’s club, along with the transfer portal, the Ducks and much more. It’s recruiting time in Austin, and it’s a big weekend for the defense. One that only got bigger yesterday with the news that Cedar Hill defensive tackle Jalen Brewster, who some consider the nation’s no. 1 overall prospect, will be making his way to the state capitol today to begin an official visit with the Longhorns. Brewster committed to Texas Tech months ago yet has kept communication lines open with various schools, including Florida, LSU, Texas and others. Brewster suffered a torn labrum last year and is still recovering from that to a degree. But his athletic ability is eye popping. Five-star defensive lineman and Texas Tech commit Jalen Brewster will officially visit Texas this weekend, a source confirms to OnTexasFootball. 247Sports' Mike Roach first reported the development. Brewster, who ranks as one of the top defensive linemen in the country out of Cedar Hill (Texas), has kept the door open on his recruitment despite his pledge to the Red Raiders. He officially visited LSU last weekend. The Longhorns don't have any interior defensive linemen committed to date.
