- Things are really heating up for Jim Schlossnagle and his staff, as Texas continues to be very active (and very selective) in the portal. - The Longhorns have hosted at least five players this week alone. - Those visits continue today, which include 2025 Buster Posey Award Finalist Carson Tinney of Notre Dame. He's one that you want Texas to land. That would be a big time get. - While I won't get into other names, I can tell you those visitors include both pitchers and catchers. - There are a handful of players that if Texas decides they want them, they are in. It would be a done deal. With that said, the big question will be IF the Horns decide to…

The dead period came to a close last night at midnight and Texas is back to hosting portal visitors. They’ll start by hosting one today. As usual, we can’t release the name but I can tell you it’s a position of need. — Everyone wants to know about the assistant coach search as the Horns need to replace Associate Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator Noah Cain, who left for the same position at Texas A&M last week. Rumors are floating online that Texas has already hired Oregon’s Jack Marder. I can tell you that is NOT the case. I can also tell you that Texas has yet to make a hire, but is working diligently to do so. — There’s been specul…

In the words of Bobby Burton, "BOOM!" Add five more stars to the 2026 Texas recruiting class! Five-star Grayson (Ga.) LB Tyler Atkinson has committed to the Texas Longhorns! What a win on the recruiting trail for the Texas staff. In one of the most highly coveted recruitments of the 2026 cycle, Steve Sarkisian, Johnny Nansen, Pete Kwiatkowski and the Texas staff come out on top for the 6-foot-2.5-inch, 220-pound linebacker. Atkinson is a MIKE at the next level. Texas pitched to him being the quarterback of the defense on his official visit as well. A lot of credit to Anthony Hill Jr. is deserved in this recruitment as well, who did a great job as the …

Texas Hoops: Sean Miller on the road seeing targets; roster update Sean Miller and staff are on the road again this week. Miller is leaving zero doubt with the Goosby family of where Austin Goosby sits on the Longhorns board in 2026. Miller and Ulric Malagi will be back at Melissa High this morning to see the 6-5.5 guard and top 35 ranked prospect in the cycle. Goosby is a Texas lean over BYU, Kansas and SMU with Alabama and Duke likely to jump on board during the May "live period". Miller is also expected to make a couple more stops in the DFW area today, possibly 2027 PF Dawson Battie (Dallas/St. Mark's). Battie is likely to be one of the first 2027 offers in…

There’s a lot to digest from last night. - We could spend all day dissecting what went wrong in pass protection for the Horns. - The Longhorn offensive line was clearly overwhelmed way too often. - Yet Quinn Ewers did his teammates no favors. In the face of a legit pass rush, Ewers folded as easily as a piece of paper in a book. - He repeatedly bailed backwards instead of stepping into the pocket. In doing so, Ewers gave the Georgia pass rushers an even larger target. Georgia could use the wide pass rush and therefore make the Texas OTs protect more space. The Georgia DL did NOT need more space to operate. That space also gave Georgia ed…

Over the weekend Texas hosted Notre Dame OF Bino Watters for a visit. Watters then left and visited LSU on Monday. Earlier this week I reported that things looked good for Texas and Watters and that Texas A&M, who also hosted him, believed the Horns were leading. That has now changed. I fully expect LSU to be the destination for Watters and that announcement to come soon. There are a lot of moving parts in this recruitment and it's just one of those things that didn't work out. The Longhorns hosted another visitor earlier this week, however, and I'm told that visit went well. The team leaves for Omaha in just a few hours.

I've read way too much bs over the last 24 hours. Texas got beat on a recruit. Yes. Was it a tough loss? Absolutely. Have there been others, too? Yes, it hasn't been the first or even second time in the last couple of weeks. There may even be another today and more tomorrow. I get the frustration. I understand it. I truly do. But the absolute idea that Texas will somehow be defeated by this stretch and that the recruiting world of the Longhorns is coming to an end is nothing more than useless hyperbole. And, it shows just how *young* some people are from covering or following recruiting. I don't say all of this to be mean to those folks, and …

Texas wrapped up its final official visitors weekend of the summer in style. Here's the early intel coming out of the last 48 hours on the Forty Acres. *This not hitting on everyone, and we'll have more intel as we get it over the next four hours/days. Gerry Hamilton contributed to this report. WR Easton Royal - #AGNB27 There is no doubt Easton Royal is feeling the pressure in the home state. And that constant pressure is to stay in the Boot. Texas had a very good visit with Royal. The 5-star wide receiver spent plenty of time with Steve Sarkisian and Chris Jackson. Texas is on top in terms of development and resumé for NFL future. OTF continu…

Tip your cap. And move on. That’s my best advice to a Texas team who was clearly beaten by a superior Georgia squad. Yet there are valuable takeaways, things you just can’t do and expect to compete and win. Nine penalties to one. Three outright busted coverages. Giving up an onside kick. Four drops. Texas has had issues like that all year long. The drops and penalties, especially. Issues like that don’t suddenly disappear in game 10 against a top five opponent. While the Texas players were out-performed, so too were the Texas coaches at key times. After his lead was cut to 4 points midway through the third quarter, Kirby Smart produced a mast…

As of mid-Friday morning, the Longhorns now sit at four portal commitments. Those include: INF Linkin Garcia (Texas Tech) C Ian Armstrong (St. Marys) OF Sayer Solitaria (Kent State) OF Trevor Goldenetz (Long Beach State) So what does the portal picture look like from here? Initially I reported that the magic number was six to eight out of the portal. I still believe that to be the case. I also believe that Schloss and staff are being very selective of who they take. "Not just going to add (players) to add them," one source told me. One thing that has seemed to change is that, initially, I felt the Horns would take up to three pitchers i…

No. 1 Texas vs ULM Game Week Thread The No. 1 ranked (doesn't that sound sweet) Texas Longhorns play host to the UL-Monroe Warhawks on Saturday at 7 p.m. central. The Longhorns come into Saturday 3-0 after defeating UTSA 56-7. UL-Monroe is 2-0 after beating UAB 32-6 two weeks ago. The Warhawks had a bye last week, and will head to Austin fresh and ready. Key notes Quinn Ewers is listed by Steve Sarkisian as "questionable", but is not expected to play. Arch Manning is expected to make his first career college start Saturday. Jaydon Blue will be monitored in practice this week with hopes to get him back in the game Saturday. View fu…

Hook ‘Em! A huge, huge, huge addition for the Texas Longhorns comes from the signing of former NC State running back Hollywood Smothers out of the portal. Smothers had originally committed to Alabama after entering the portal in mid-December, however Texas swoops in and flips the talented back. Smothers ran for 939 yards on 5.9 yards per attempt and found the end zone six times as well. He is considered one of the top running backs in the portal and the combination of Smothers and Raleek Brown gives Texas its best running back combination since Roschon Johnson and Bijan Robinson. The portal process has certainly been interesting for Texas, but make no …

Texas nickels Keynodo Hudson is not expected to return to the team in 2026. This is the first move of a couple dominoes expected to fall which will likely extend down to analysts as well. That move came as of Friday morning, just two days after the Longhorns defeated Michigan in the Citrus Bowl to conclude the 2025 season. Hudson arrived at the beginning of the 2024 season as a defensive analyst for the Texas defense, and was promoted ahead of the 2025 season as a full-time on-field coach for the Texas secondary where he primarily focused on coaching the nickels. Burnt Orange fireworks are lighting up the Fourth of July as five-star offensive lineman Ismael Camara has announced his commitment to Texas. The 6-foot-6, 335-pound Gilmer (Texas) standout picked the Longhorns over SMU, Oregon, Texas A&M, LSU, Alabama and a host of other suitors. It’s one of the biggest wins on the recruiting front for the Longhorns in 2027, and likely completes a stellar offensive line haul for Texas this cycle. Camara joins Brian Swanson, Lucas Rhoa, Jackson Cook, and Keyon Hemphill-Woods in what’s a dynamic haul of offensive linemen that gives Steve Sarkisian and Kyle Flood plenty of versatility. “I really loved the pro-style offense th…
