The time has arrived. Texas will be played for an SEC Championship this afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia in year one of being in the conference. The Texas Longhorns have had boatloads of recruiting success since Steve Sarkisian arrived in Austin in January of 2021. So much so that of the 25 highest-rated all-time commits per 247Sports Composite (modern era goes back to c/o 1999), seven are players Sarkisian recruited. 14 were Mack Brown recruits. Three were Tom Herman’s (really two since Bru McCoy technically counts as a signee), and one was Charlie Strong’s. The Crimson Tide went from No. 123 in the country in 2024 in penalty yardage per game (69.1) to No. 17 in 2025 (39.7). We reported yesterday afternoon that Cole Hutson has been approved for a temporary restraining order to move forward with his suit against the NCAA and its application of the 5-for-5 rule. Hutson, once he receives the actual order itself from the judge today, can then provide it to Texas and begin resuming football activities immediately. In other words, the judge ruled yesterday in favor of Hutson. Texas sports information released a note earlier today that six starters were having off-season surgery, including wide receiver Ryan Wingo, who dealt with an injured wrist from the Mississippi State game on. Despite the surgery, Wingo is NOT expected to miss spring ball. Trevor Goosby, Ty’Anthony Smith and Xavier Filsaime are expected to miss some or all of spring ball as each of them had shoulder surgeries. Arch Manning’s foot surgery is not expected to limit his availability for spring, according to the press release.
