According to Steve Sarkisian, something is rotten in college sports. For all its good, college sports needs rules that are going to be enforced. In Sark’s own words, “Something’s got to change.” In his official 15 minute Q&A at the SEC spring meetings and in front a smaller pool of reporters later, Sark espoused the need for rules above all else. Importantly, Sark said he didn’t care where those rules came from, be it the NCAA, the SEC or anywhere else. A quick update on the Texas scholarship count with the early enrollees now fully moved onto campus and the semester starting back up for the spring term. By my count, Texas sits with 78 scholarships on campus at the moment, with three waiting to arrive in the summer. So 81 of the 85 scholarships are accounted for at the moment based off of my list. *** Quarterback (3) Arch Manning Trey Owens KJ Lacey The Texas quarterback room is in good hands. California TE to make OV in June Texas tight ends coach Jeff Banks extended an offer to fast rising tight end Luke Sorensen (Anaheim, Calif./Servite) January 31 after a school visit the last day of the month. Israel “Izzy” Hammons has kept a lower profile as a recruit and hasn’t been talked about enough as a Texas linebacker target. At 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, Hammons plays his high school ball north of the Red River at Choctaw High School in the East OKC metro area. One of the better programs in the Sooner State, Choctaw has played in the OSSAA 6A State Championship in back to back seasons and took home the state title during Hammons’ sophomore season in 2024. Nansen in California Johnny Nansen was at Folsom (Calif.) High Wednesday to see 4-star++ DL commit Josiah Sharma. Sharma, 6-4 and 320-pounds, is solid with Texas per a source close to the recruitment. Sharma attended the Texas vs. Georgia game October 19th weekend.
