Texas has been hit with its second portal casualty of the spring with the news of Payton Kirkland's expected entrance reported first by Hayes Fawcett of On3. Kirkland has been recovering from a knee injury he suffered a year ago and has yet to find a groove back to the field. This spring, Kirkland has often been working alone with the Texas training staff on the back fields at the Denius practice fields. The 6-foot-6 and 366-pound offensive lineman from Orlando, Florida did not appear in a game as a freshman in 2023. A comment made by Steve Sarkisian on Monday really caught my attention: "I'm not too consumed with, 'Hey, this is our starting 11,' knowing, especially on defense — we'll probably play over 30 guys in the first half of this game. BOOM! Texas has landed another commitment, this time from Amarillo Palo Duro wide receiver Kyron Brown. At 6-foot, 185 pounds, Brown chose the Longhorns over Kansas State, Northwestern, and Baylor amongst nearly two dozen other offers. Brown joined NOLA Brother Martin’s Easton Royal and North Forney’s Briceson Thrower as the third wide receiver in the Longhorns’ 2027 class.
