NCAA Selection Sunday Thread The Texas men await Selection Sunday with real uncertainty, while the women will be celebrating a No. 1 seed. Do the men get in? Rodney Terry's squad is squarely on the bubble. Some think Texas will be left out. Some think Texas will get the last spot in the Field of 68 play-in game. The teams that are in the same position as Texas headed into Selection Sunday are Indiana, North Carolina, Xavier and Boise State. Barring an upset in the A-10 or AAC tournament finals, there are two spots for the five teams mentioned above. Texas (19-15): NCAA NET: 39 Quad 1: 7-10 Quad 2: 3-5 In favor of Texas ... Pla…

Recruiting: Where things stand on Friday morning The Texas Longhorns currently have a recruiting class ranked around No. 10 to 12 in the country with a lot of runway remaining. There are three scheduled announcements today with the Longhorns not the favorite to win out in those. It gets very interesting Saturday and Sunday for Texas, however. OnTexasFootball remains the same, the Longhorns are very likely to sign a fifth straight top 5 recruiting class at the end of the day. Here is a look at where things stand starting the morning of June 27: June 27 announcements ... Damari Simeon, DL, Richland (N.J.) St. Aug OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++…

Warren Roberson to Return to Texas in 2026 *** Positive news on the retention front: Cornerback Warren Roberson will be returning to Texas for the 2026 season. Roberson had initially announced his intentions to enter the portal on January 12, though the Longhorns were able to reel Roberson back and retain him for the 2026 season. Roberson appeared in 11 games for the Longhorns this past season, totaling 187 snaps. He played a major role in the Citrus Bowl victory over Michigan, with a season high 53 snaps coming in the final game of the season. The Longhorn cornerback room retains two valuable depth pieces with Kobe Black also pulled back out…

The University of Texas has its 27th head coach in program history. Chris Del Conte has hired Sean Miller as the next coach of the Texas Longhorns. Our Gerry Hamilton has been all over the coaching search and quickly pointed towards Sean Miller being a possibility for the Longhorns and alas, the move has been made. Miller began his head coaching career at Xavier in the 2004-05 season. During his initial five-year tenure (2004-2009), he led the Musketeers to a 120-47 record and four NCAA tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight run. Miller returned to Xavier in 2022 and led the team to a 27-10 record in his first season back, tying the school record for B…

Some practice intel: * The absurd catch everyone saw from Cam Coleman came when Arch Manning threw a wobbler late over the middle. But Coleman adjusted and swallowed it. Amazing catch! Apparently, there were some hoots from a couple of offensive players afterward, including Raleek Brown. * The kitchen sink. That’s what Kyle Flood is throwing at left guard right now. Anyone and everyone is getting a look early in camp. I wrote earlier this morning that Jordan Coleman saw action there. Well, add another name to the mix. Even Andre Cojoe got significant reps at left guard this week. Dylan Sikorski, Jayden Chatman and Laurence Seymore have also done s…

Portal: Remaining targets and needs The Texas Longhorns 24 hour run of signing Cam Coleman, Rasheem Biles and Hollywood Smothers sent the fan base into celebration mode. And the excitement continued with the announcements of Trevor Goosby and Connor Robertson that they would return to Austin for one more season. The portal class now ranks at or near the top for the cycle, but this is about filling needs. And the staff still has work to do at three positions for sure. OTF begins Monday with a look at what is in the class, and the top targets remaining entering the three day dead period. Texas portal class ... Raleek Brown, RB, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mat…

No. 1 Texas vs ULM Game Week Thread The No. 1 ranked (doesn't that sound sweet) Texas Longhorns play host to the UL-Monroe Warhawks on Saturday at 7 p.m. central. The Longhorns come into Saturday 3-0 after defeating UTSA 56-7. UL-Monroe is 2-0 after beating UAB 32-6 two weeks ago. The Warhawks had a bye last week, and will head to Austin fresh and ready. Key notes Quinn Ewers is listed by Steve Sarkisian as "questionable", but is not expected to play. Arch Manning is expected to make his first career college start Saturday. SEC Hoops: Texas at Georgia Game Thread Texas (17-9, 8-5) is on a five game winning streak in SEC play, but will now enter the toughest four game stretch of the season due to what's on the line. First up, is a trip to the Peach State to take on 18-8 (6-7 in SEC) Georgia. The Bulldogs are coming off an upset win at Kentucky, which stopped a skid of losing five of the last six games. The bottom line for the Longhorns is clear. Texas has to win one more game to be a near lock to be in the Field of 68 headed into the SEC Tournament. For the SEC Tournament to not matter, Texas has to win two more games and get to 10-8. That would make a Texas a 100% lock, and likely …

If you want the bottom line, here it is. I don’t do Crystal Balls or RPMs, or whatever the new name is. But here’s what I think will occur today (I have no need for a confidence level, because this is what I genuinely believe; it’s not a straight guess): - Lamont Rogers - Missouri - Riley Pettitjohn - Ohio State or USC (not Texas) - Kade Phillips - Texas Texas and Blake Gideon have done a terrific job with Phillips. Whether true or not, Rogers seemed to feel less important than others at his position. Personally, I think he has as much upside or more than all other tackles on the board. Pettijohn, according to a source, did not have…

The pledge of Birmingham (Ala.) defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland gives the Horns three DT recruits in this class. Damari Simeon of New Jersey appears to be leaning the Longhorns’ way, too. Then there’s Kendal Guervil from Florida who remains on campus this morning, as well as James Johnson from Florida. All four are nationally rated. This could be the best DT class in the last 25 years for the Longhorns. Welcome to the SEC! ** Paris Melvin Jr., the defensive back out of Cypress, did not make an official visit to Texas. OTF has been told that the Longhorns have figured out their DB recruiting class and there is no room for Melvin in the…

I’ve watched the game twice now. Texas got beat up front. Brutally bad. The offensive line The interior DL of Georgia routinely defeated the Texas offensive guards. That’s just a hard fact. The Texas guards could not move any of them, not even on combo blocks with Jake Majors. Kyle Flood even inserted Cole Hutson into the game to try to shake things up. Hutson played well. But the Georgia interior was just having none of it. And the Georgia defensive ends were at best stalemated. I could only find two instances where the Texas tackles caved in the Georgia DEs. By comparison, Texas did that to A&M 15 times or more a week ago. This game wa…

With the news of Josiah Sharma and Myron Charles selecting other schools, it puts the Longhorns in a precarious position at defensive tackle recruiting in the 2025 class. Texas, ideally, wanted 3-4 prospects at the position in the 2025 recruiting class. But the Horns only brought in five players for official visits. Three of those are now officially off the board, leaving only Brandon Brown and DJ Sanders. While Texas sits in a strong position for Sanders, Brown is still contemplating multiple schools despite his current pledge to Texas. Both Steve Sarkisian and Kenny Baker clearly have some work ahead of them. What will the Horns’ response be? We…

What could have been? That’s the inevitable question that comes from last night’s game. The Horns had first and goal on the Ohio State 1-yard line late in the fourth quarter but failed to score. In some ways, the red zone woes of this team are well documented, so the failure to score at the end seems almost fitting. Yet it doesn’t, not completely. Why? Because it doesn’t tell the whole story. Despite working through issues like the red zone problems, field goal kicking or a third quarter malaise all season long, the Horns have also been a resilient, successful bunch the entire season. They’ve always seemed to find ways to overcome any shortco…
