Texas took the day off yesterday. Well, not “off” entirely. They had team meetings, participated in a culture Wednesday activity, etc. But they were “off” the football field at least. ** Some folks have asked whether the so-called “Mini Moody” remains in the future plans of the athletic department. I’m told it most certainly does. It’ll be a new venue for the volleyball team and smaller concert events. There are also plans for an athletic village near the area for 500+ student athletes. OTF has confirmed Gilmer OT Ismael Camara will be in Austin for an unofficial visit next weekend. The 6-foot-6, 340 pounder will drive down to Austin on Saturday the 20th after finishing up Saturday/summer school. The bulk of the visit will take place on Sunday. This will be Camara's last visit before the summer dead period sets in which will prevent prospects from visiting college campuses until September. I know the first inning looked bad for the Horns last night. Giving up four runs on just two hits is clearly no recipe for success in Omaha. But the performance by the Georgia pitcher in the 7-1 win for the Bulldogs was the real story of the night IMO. Fifteen strikeouts, allowing only four hits while tossing a complete game. First, and most importantly, I am told that Texas second baseman Ethan Mendoza is okay. He left yesterday’s game due to shoulder pain (the same shoulder that he hurt against Tennessee). Mendoza took part in batting practice this morning. — Speaking of Mendoza, just a week ago I thought he would for sure leave to the MLB Draft.
