Kyle Flood has got to go
Searles did a pretty good job here I think. He inherited a horrible situation and actually made the OL the strength of the team in 2013 (albeit a bad team). It's actually insane that OP is 100% right, but nonetheless Flood is either the best or at worst second best (behind Searles) OL coach that we have had in the last 25 years. How Texas is so mediocre on the OL year after year is mind boggling.

Arch vs ULM and MSST Montage
This argument made sense against Ohio State but does not explain this game against UTEP whatsoever

Don't tell me the problem, what is your solution if you are Sark.
IMO 12 personnel is the opposite of what you want. Need to spread the field to get lighter boxes, then use Manning in the run game with high frequency. If he gets hurt then that is football.

Florida? Really?
Florida looked much better at home against *checks notes* Long Island than we did on the road against Ohio State, you see. 😉

2025 SP+ Rankings (Texas at 13 with a 17.1 rating)
well we were that bad last year and it may not really be considering our portal additions. You'd think it'd realize that the punting was much better after game 1 though. What I don't understand is why it didn't punish Ohio State's offense just as much as ours. It must have registered our 4th quarter yards and points as "garbage time", which is a little silly given we had a clear chance to tie the game at the end.

Film guys Arch film study
OSU had a good scheme for us and the lack of film did prove to be advantage for them. (We couldn't game plan for them the way they did for us). That's a difficult first game as a full time starter and he melted down. It is what it is, but IMO things look fixable. We'll see how good Arch's mental really is. If he can clean up his game there is a terrific team around him.

Rank these six teams after the last two days
In the analytical power rankings (e.g FPI and SP+) we're going to move *up* after the game vs OSU. We significantly out gained them not only in total yards but also per-play. We lost because of a few 4th downs and penalties, which an analytics person would call bad luck. I do think Arch obviously has to play much better but the team around is pretty damn well positioned. And we have 3 weeks of patsies to tune up the passing game on. Personally I'd put us #2 of this group. Neither Clemson nor LSU was particularly great last year, so I'm not a believer on them yet. Remember how pathetic that Clemson defense was? Notre Dame lost a lot and doesn't recruit like OSU and Texas. Do we really believe Miami has a good defense now, or was ND just a bit limited themselves? We'll see how it plays out.

Thoughts on Arch Manning
"Long Island" honestly might be the single funniest opponent I have ever seen for a P5 team.

Thoughts on Arch Manning
Glass half full is that outside of Arch the team looked really good given the competition level and road environment. Arch just has to get better over the next few weeks.

Texas at Ohio State Live Game Thread
I think they were both legit calls but ticky tack. SEC refs love to throw flags. Game was lost by the passing game taking so long to get going.

Conservative call but I get going into half time with it being a one score game. If we don't do dumb penalties OSU won't drive the entire field. 2nd half needs more quick game.

Don't get the hand wringing about the defense. It was two dumb and unnecessary penalties that made the drive. (Both of which get let go if not SEC refs IMO).

2008 vs 2009 matchup
2008 was much better on offense. The offense really missed Cosby and Ogbonnaya in 2009. Though I wonder if some of the struggle was also a result of opponents doing a lot of film study on the Colt Mccoy offense over the summer and finding a few answers. Both teams kind of sucked on the OL. (McWhorter has to be the worst recruiting assistant coach that we've had). 2009 was probably better on defense, but they also didn't have to play Sam Bradford, Crabtree, Terrelle Pryor, etc, so that helped. (Not unlike our defense last year who also dominated a slate of bad offenses but showed to be a bit more mortal in the playoffs). Overall IMO 2008 was the better team, though 2009 probably had the better chance to win the NC just because the competition was weaker.

Reshuffling on the OL (Monday 1:50 p.m.)
Where did he say that Flood was wrong? CTJ's point is that there might be more to the story as far as *why* Flood is doing it, not that Flood is an idiot. Though I think Bobby's explanation (Robertson is OL #6 and we need to prepare for what that means) does make sense.

Isaiah Bond signed a 3-year deal with the Browns
If Bond has his head on straight then it's a great move for Cleveland. Basically a free draft pick.

Quinn Ewers makes the latest 53-man roster projection for the Dolphins
I feel like Quinn would clear waivers and thus I expect practice squad. But we'll see...

5-star Derrek Cooper in beast mode in opener
Those guys had Clinton Portis, Frank Gore, and Willis Mcgahee on the same roster at one point lol.

No more 3rd Party NIL Payments
IMO the unlimited transfers is the one thing that really needs to be fixed, and it turns out it's quite easy to do so: just allow players to sign binding multi-year pay for play contracts. The attempts to identify "legitimate" NIL just brings us back to a system where we reward cheaters. Only this time it's even easier to cheat because there are many legitimate avenues to launder the money through. (If you think about it rules were much easier to enforce when players weren't allowed to take any money whatsoever).

No more 3rd Party NIL Payments
The day TOF goes straight to the AD is the day I stop contributing. The AD needs to fund the $20M on their own from ticket sales, media payouts, etc. The purpose of TOF is to be additional compensation beyond the $20M.
