    The first Junior Day of the year occurred yesterday.

    And it was considered “successful”.

    So how many commitments did the Longhorns grab? Five? Seven? Ten?

    Nope. Just one emerged.

    And it really should be no surprise to close onlookers of the program. That’s how Steve Sarkisian plays it.

    When it comes to recruiting and Sark, patience isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a way of life.

    Yet there are different ways to look at his patience.

    Sark and running back coach Tashard Choice took that one commitment not from a player in the upcoming 2025 class, but a running back in 2026, Aledo’s speedy Raycine Guillory Jr.

    Perhaps that’s how the Horns want to play it. Take a player who wants to sign two years from now, yet a pledge from a 2025 player is just too soon.

    How does that jibe with Sark’s “patient”recruiting style?

    Here’s how:

    The immediate class needs more detailed introspection. While we all know a commitment two years from now doesn’t always stick, one in the ‘25 class is very likely to.

    So Sark is actually playing the long game yet again. Better to be thorough on the front end, especially on decisions that will impact your program sooner.

    It’s a simple, proven concept. And Sark’s not changing, not until he has truly surveyed the landscape, met with a multitude of recruits and is ready to pull the trigger.

    Sark and recruiting, I just never get the feeling that he pushes the panic button.

    He’s willing to play the long game. Always.

    Do you think there were any silents or maybe a kid or two wanted to commit and were told to hold off?

    how do players feel if they want to commit and the school won’t take it at that time?

    I think there are some of those who are teetering on that idea, including one very specific player who will go unnamed right now.

    But Texas is not pushing for it really. Again, what’s the rush if you’re Texas?

    I think Sark's approach, as contrasted to Mack's, allows for greater evaluation by both program and player.  It keeps us in the running for many of the top players who formerly in many cases we missed on as they just were not ready to make a commitment in the spring of their junior years.  It also allows us to weed out the guys who had strong early high school showings but peaked out and did not continue to progress.   It allows more time to build strong relationships and solidify the commitments that are made.

    Bobby so I've seen schools that have more than 1 JR Day do you think Texas has that possibly here to maybe another in March or so for kids that couldn't make this one like Faususi etc?

    Definitely. They’ll come back with another event in early spring IMO.

    Agree no rush on Texas’ end, but what is a player knows he wants Texas and wants to commit, would Texas take it?

    It seems to me the field of prospects narrows by the end of February.  

    The June OV’s are very telling about who they covet, but you can get a really good idea by March by reading here over the next five weeks.  

    Of course, a Nate Kibble type will always surface and they’ll dial in on some guys like Xavier Filsaime late. 

    Sark ‘n staff are already working on ‘26 kids as you can see with the recent commitment.

    Just thank your lucky stars these guys never stop looking, never give up and very forward thinking.

    Loved Terry's highlight tape. Not sure where he's going to end up but he's bigtime. He's already one of my '25 favorites. 

    The Guillory timing tells me two things:

    1. Choice and Sark liked him enough now to take the commitment.
    2. We're in demand. Guillory will have every major knocking on his door but spots at Texas under Sark and Choice are at a premium. He knew it was commitable and took his spot now.

    I love the content. OTF only had about 400 or so followers on YouTube when I first saw the channel and began to follow. I signed up for this site the moment I heard about it. I am looking forward to watching it grow, as OTF did on YouTube. Here is to the future of the OTF website, I am sure it is as bright as the future of Longhorn football. Hook Em!
