And it was considered “successful”.

So how many commitments did the Longhorns grab? Five? Seven? Ten?

Nope. Just one emerged.

And it really should be no surprise to close onlookers of the program. That’s how Steve Sarkisian plays it.

When it comes to recruiting and Sark, patience isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a way of life.

Yet there are different ways to look at his patience.

Sark and running back coach Tashard Choice took that one commitment not from a player in the upcoming 2025 class, but a running back in 2026, Aledo’s speedy Raycine Guillory Jr.

Perhaps that’s how the Horns want to play it. Take a player who wants to sign two years from now, yet a pledge from a 2025 player is just too soon.

How does that jibe with Sark’s “patient”recruiting style?

Here’s how:

The immediate class needs more detailed introspection. While we all know a commitment two years from now doesn’t always stick, one in the ‘25 class is very likely to.

So Sark is actually playing the long game yet again. Better to be thorough on the front end, especially on decisions that will impact your program sooner.

It’s a simple, proven concept. And Sark’s not changing, not until he has truly surveyed the landscape, met with a multitude of recruits and is ready to pull the trigger.

Sark and recruiting, I just never get the feeling that he pushes the panic button.

He’s willing to play the long game. Always.

2026 Aledo RB Raycine Guillory Jr. has committed to Texas following his time on campus for the Junior Day Saturday afternoon.

Guillory was a key piece of the Aledo offense in 2023 that ended up winning the state title. The sophomore running back rushed for 1200+ yards on an 8.5 yards per carry clip and found the end zone 17 times.

Another feather in the cap of RB Coach Tashard Choice who lands a tremendous prospect from a very impressive program out of DFW. Guillory was clocked at 10.8 in the 100m as a sophomore and has a reported 4.43 laser time in the 40-yard dash as well.

Guillory becomes the first commitment in the 2026 class for the Texas Longhorns.

I am told everyone who wagered on over 0.5 commitments to come out of this weekend will be walking to the ticket window here soon to cash that ticket.

- Reyes is high on Texas and had a great visit today. I was told he can easily envision himself playing in Austin. He’s originally from Illinois. OU, Missouri, LSU and Texas A&M have all offered.

- Feaster was told that Texas sees him as a Julio Jones clone and wants to use him the same way Jones was used at Alabama. 

- Texas, along with LSU and Texas A&M, are standing out for the 2027 WR. The relationships he’s built with the Texas staff, along with the Horns’ electrifying offense, has really caught the attention of Feaster. 

- It’s just a matter of time before Washington is a Longhorn from what I’ve been told.

If you want to talk about toughness, Cordova showed up to campus today in a t-shirt with the sub-30 degree temperatures pestering just about everyone else in attendance.

Texas joins the mix for Cordova, who now holds 18 offers – including Oklahoma, Texas A&M, TCU and SMU.

- After the day was over, certain players were asked to stay longer for some more personal time with the coaches.  For the most part, these were guys who either received offers or who already held offers.  

- DeSoto duo Byron Washington and Ethan "Boobie" Feaster were two of those players.  Washington, the 2025 four-star OL, is all Texas at this point and when I asked if anyone else was standing out, he said "nope."  That should tell you everything you need to know.  As for 2027 WR Boobie Feaster, he personally met with Sark a bit ago.  Both he and Washington hung out in the player's lounge up until their meetings.

- Shadow Creek linebacker commit Anthony "Deuce" Williams was an ace recruiter for the Longhorns today.  He worked on Colby Sellers, Jacorey Watson, Haydon Caston and Kade Phillips the most over the course of the day. Williams added that his commitment is stronger than ever, despite continuous interest from other schools.  Texas A&M, TCU, Baylor and Utah continue to push for him to visit, but I doubt that ever happens.

-  Four-star CB Colby Sellers (Shadow Creek) visited with Sark on Friday at his school and again today on campus.  He just wrapped up a visit to Georgia last week and will now visit both Oklahoma and Texas A&M next.  He said that OU, Texas and Georgia are standing out the most, along with Texas A&M.  It's worth noting that he likes Sarkisian a lot.

- IMG Academy four-star linebacker Gavin Nix was a surprise visitor on the day and Nix was already pumped to see Austin in person, as both Jordan Johnson-Reubell and Jerrick Gibson have been hyping up the Longhorns for months now.  Expect Nix to return to Austin in the future for a closer, more personal look.

- Kiotti Armstrong (Jasper) is wide open at this point, but former teammate and Texas linebacker signee Tyanthony Smith is in his ear non-stop. He said the visit went really well and that the Longhorns will continue to get a look from one of the nation's top tight ends. Armstrong mentioned that his meeting with tight ends coach Jeff Banks went great.

- Lago Vista's Swayde Griffin, the son of former Texas DB Cedric Griffin, met with Terry Joseph in depth.  He was one of the first few cornerbacks to meet with Joseph and I was told a very productive conversation took place.

- Sachse 2026 WR Hekma Harrison II, who is the son of former Kansas State player Hekma Harrison, met with Tashard Choice on campus. Choice will be by in the spring to see Harrison. He will visit TCU in March.

- Ed Small, the Texas baseball commit, was also in attendance today. Small is one heck of a prospect on the diamond, but told me he wants to focus on football going forward. He met with Director of Player Personnel Billy Glasscock and was told they will be visiting with him in the spring.  TCU is a school to watch here, however, as they want Small in both football and baseball.

- One other important note... a few parents told me that the coach's energy and optimism about the future is unmatched by any other staff in the country.  "It's a good energy like we haven't seen anywhere else," said one parent.

Terry also has offers from Oregon, Nebraska, Oklahoma and TCU.

Terry was one of four new scholarship offers on the day after more than 100 high school football prospects descended on the University of Texas football facility.

Carty, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound offensive lineman, was offered by Texas just moments ago. Carty also has scholarship offers from Baylor, Arkansas and more.

Earlier today, Tyler Chapel Hull running back Rickey Wright and Bridgeland High School offensive lineman Ryan Fodje were offered scholarships by the Longhorns.

Wright is one of the state's most prolific offensive prospects with more than 6,000 yards rushing in his high school career. He was district offensive MVP as both a sophomore and junior. Last season alone, he rushed for 2,855 yards and 40 touchdowns.

Wright and his teammate Demtrius Brisbon, who plays QB for Chapel Hill, are both currently committed to SMU. Wright has also been offered by Alabama, Baylor and Arkansas among others.
