Texas' No. 1 ranking is worth celebrating, even if it doesn't move the needle internally
Steve Sarkisian is scheduled to meet with reporters after Texas concludes practice on Monday. He’s probably going to be asked about the Longhorns being the No. 1-ranked team in the Associated Press Top 25 for the first time in school history. History suggests Sarkisian will step in front of the cameras with his response ready to go. “I don't really care about the rankings, truth be told,” he said last month in San Antonio at the Texas High School Coaches Association Coaching School and- 6 comments

Real quick on the recruiting front of Alamo Heights 2025 ATH Michael Terry III: Majority of schools are split at wide receiver and running back for where he fits in at the next level. Texas is still even trying to decipher what is the best fit for him. The message Terry is receiving most from schools is "get to campus and we will figure it out from there." New programs in this recruitment include Oregon, TCU, Texas A&M and Nebraska. Texas is firmly in the mix as well. Tashard

There were two major surprises and one pleasant one on Friday. First, T’Vondre was selected early on by the Tennessee Titans. The consensus view of Sweat slipping out of the early rounds apparently wasn’t one the Titans subscribed to despite Sweat’s DUI arrest two weeks ago. Second, Adonai Mitchell slid all the way to no. 52, likely largely on reports that Mitchell was difficult in practice at both Georgia and Texas. Mitchell will now head to Indianapolis where he’ll get a fresh start.

The 2022 Top 5 ranked recruiting class: How have they fared Headed into spring practice the 2022 top 5 ranked recruiting class has been a key part of the Longhorns ascending to a Big 12 Championship and College Football Playoff appearance. Steve Sarkisian's first full class has produced six full time starters (counting specialists), four other players that have started a game and seven more players that are considered key players headed into the 2024 season. When it comes to fut

The case for the 2000s as Texas' golden era, the Mount Rushmore of Longhorn offensive linemen and a hat tip
There’s an argument to be made that the 2000s under Mack Brown, not the 1960s under Darrell Royal, are the best decade in the history of the Texas football program. Only Boise State tallied more wins than the Longhorns’ 110 victories from 2000-09 among FBS clubs. Texas only won two conference championships during the decade. But the Longhorns suffered an upset loss in the Big 12 title game in 2001 and were denied rightful entry to the 2008 game (it’s hard to explain to someone who wasn’t ar- 20 comments

I sat down with the president of Lead1 Association Tom McMillen. McMillen’s group encompasses the top 130 football programs in the country, not all of the NCAA. I got his thoughts on where college sports is actually headed.

Looking back at recruiting classes can be a difficult process. How do you grade them (based solely on college performance and what they did at Texas?), when exactly do you grade them (at the end of four years or five years, or even further out), etc? Well, hindsight is 20/20 as they say. To remove any ambiguity, I developed this retrospective solely on players who played in the NFL (does not include taxi/practice squad) and take into consideration roster attrition. 2011 (21 signee

The importance of premium positions, a forgotten great season and Texas' 'fearless' freshman on the diamond
Published Monday morning, Jordan Scruggs’ first contribution to OTF listed the 10 most wanted recruits left on the board for Texas in the 2027 cycle. In the transfer portal/NIL era of college football, four of the 10 prospects jumped out as arguably the most important remaining targets for the Longhorns: — Ismael Camara, OL, Gilmer — Marcus Fakatou, DL, Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon — Jabaarrius Garror, EDGE, Mobile (Ala.) Vigor — Bryan Swanson, OL, Dallas South Oak- 20 comments

Barryn Sorrell’s mind was grasping how close Texas had come to a berth in the College Football Playoff National Championship while simultaneously processing the end of his Longhorn career when he reflected on the four seasons he spent in burnt orange. Experiencing a whirlwind of emotions after the 2024 season ended with a heartbreaking 28-14 Cotton Bowl loss to Ohio State, Sorrell’s response to a loaded question — if coming to Texas was everything he thought it would be — was detailed and p
