The first Junior Day of the year occurred yesterday. And it was considered “successful”. So how many commitments did the Longhorns grab? Five? Seven? Ten? Nope. Just one emerged. And it really should be no surprise to close onlookers of the program. That’s how Steve Sarkisian plays it. When it comes to recruiting and Sark, patience isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a way of life. Yet there are different ways to look at his patience. Sark and running back coach Tashar

Sunday morning look at defensive line recruiting  Kenny Baker is tasked with signing three or four defensive lineman in his first class at Texas. Good news is the Longhorns are in on some of the nations best.  Texas has three defensive lineman scheduled for official visits so far. That list will triple in the coming weeks as new offers make their way to Austin in April, and June official visits are scheduled.  OnTexasFootball begins the updated look at defensive line recruiting wi

I’m scattershooting this Sunday while wondering what happened to the original plaque President Richard Nixon presented to Darrell Royal and the 1969 Texas Longhorns after their thrilling 15-14 win over Arkansas. — After rushing for 1,456 yards and 14 touchdowns in his second season with the Atlanta Falcons, Bijan Robinson was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time last Monday. The winner of the Doak Walker Award in 2022, Robinson was selected to replace Saquon Barkley, who is gearing

I was able to meet up late Saturday night with a source to pass along some interesting team notes as winter conditioning moves on. *** First off, one of the names I have heard that is making an early impression is freshman cornerback Wardell Mack. The 6-foot corner has been someone that has really adjusted to the world of college football and gotten off to a hot start. Next is DT Alex January, who has slimmed down about 10 pounds since he arrived to campus. Something to watch as T

Continuing with a series of insider news and notes that began on Friday morning (you can find those here). This morning, let's discuss the secondary. ** Let's start with the newcomers. Andrew Mukuba is considered a "good athlete". He acts right, does what he's asked but is more naturally a quiet young man, so don't expect a vocal leader, at least not right now, despite the fact that he's a three-year starter. Mukuba's working at safety, looks like a starter and future NFL pla

We’ve hit on this subject multiple times, but I find it hard to believe the following: 1. Texas will likely have no fewer than eight players picked in the 2024 NFL Draft. 2. Even with that level of attrition, most national media types are suggesting the Longhorns should have as good or better season in 2024. Those things typically don’t square with one another. Heavy attrition, the kind Texas faces going into this season, means the team - any team - will take a step back.

Texas basketball moved to 16-8 yesterday. The Horns put together their most complete game of the year, a 94-58 throttling at home of West Virginia. The Mountaineers aren’t very good. But Texas hasn’t been “very good” much of this season. They’ve been average to above average. They’ve lost games they should have won, won games they probably should have lost, etc. In other words, it’s been a somewhat typical basketball year. But they’ve played a decent brand of ball the pa

Survive and advance: Texas onto the Round of 32 The Texas Longhorns beat the Colorado State Rams 56-44 Thursday night to advance to the Round of 32.  Before getting to the good and bad of tonight's game, this win has real meaning for the Texas program. With the win tonight, Texas has won a Round of 64 NCAA Tournament game for the third straight season. The last time that happened was the a stretch from the 2006-07 season to the 2008-09 season under Rick Barnes. Texas won a first r

The Elite 11 took place on Sunday at Austin Westlake HS a few miles from downtown Austin. Of course, the big name in attendance was Texas commit KJ Lacey who received an invitation to the Elite 11 Finals in California later this summer.  Elite 11 Finals invites: KJ Lacey, Kevin Sperry, Keelon Russell Lacey of course stuck around in Austin Monday morning for the spring practice. 2027 Shreveport (LA) QB Peyton Houston also stuck around to view practice this morning.
