Men's Hoops: Sean Miller's press conference ahead of taking on Florida

Coming off a 91-80 road loss to Georgia on Saturday, Texas returns to action against No. 7 Florida at Moody Center on Wednesday (6 p.m., ESPN2).

Sean Miller is holding a media availability today to discuss the loss to the Bulldogs, tomorrow’s game against the Gators and the state of affairs as the Longhorns look to improve their standing for an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament. As of Monday, Texas (17-10, 8-6 SEC) remained on the right side of the bubble, with the Longhorns one of 11 SEC clubs projected to be in the field of 68, according to ESPN's Joe Lunardi.

While the loss to Georgia snapped a five-game winning streak, Texas will attempt to get back on track against arguably its toughest stretch of games this season. After facing Florida (21-6, 12-2), the Longhorns travel to Texas A&M (19-8, 9-5) on Saturday (3 p.m., ESPN2), looking to avoid a season sweep at the hands of the Aggies, who won a 74-70 decision in Austin on Jan. 17.

The Longhorns will then take on No. 20 Arkansas (20-7, 10-4) in Fayetteville on Wednesday, March 4, before wrapping up the regular season schedule at home against Oklahoma (13-14, 3-11) on Saturday, March 7.

    When Florida is shooting it well from the 3-point line, Miller said, "it puts them into a position to be the best team in the country" because of everything else the Gators do well.

    Miller: "You have to have a great night taking care of the ball" to have a chance against Florida.

    Texas can't give Florida easy buckets off turnovers.

    Miller: "It'll be interesting to see how our offense is able to score on them."

    Florida is currently No. 4 in adjusted defensive efficiency, according to KenPom.

    One of the things that makes the SEC so tough, Miller said, is that everyone is playing for something every night, whether it's the conference championship, NCAA Tournament seeding, trying to get off the bubble, etc.

    Codie gotta stap it up and take on the challenge. Be a star in his role and focus on what he does well and try to add that everytime on the floor. If he gave half of the effort Khendall Weaver gave, Texas would have 3 more wins.

    If Texas keeps it within 12-14, it's a solid effort. 

    Best defensive big I have seen in a while ... as an all-around big man defender. Reuben C. Will play years in the NBA as a role player off the bench. 

    Hough is a borderline lottery pick

    Condon is a NBA two-way contract type.

    We just don't want to see them put in 7'9 Olivier Rioux in the game because that means it's big time garbage minutes aka getting blown out. Alien has only played in 8 games this season

    He's challenged the starters to be better in the first four-plus minutes of the game.

    We, as a team, appeared to be 'out of sorts', if you will.  I don't know how else to phrase what I was seeing.

    Bringing Traore back versus Florida to test the injury may not be the best scenario versus the Gators frontcourt.

    Micah Handlogten in a reserve role likely has an NBA future. Scouts know the timetable for development of Bigs is different. He’s on the radar screen…if you know what you’re looking at. Has remained at Florida to be coached by Carlin Hartman.

    I don’t know why, but I love when Coach Miller says this. After the Georgia loss. 
    "This is probably the worst defensive team that I've ever had. ... It's disappointing because it's one of the best offensive teams. We get very little help on defense."

    He will play pro ball on some level. May be a two-way guy in time. 

    But NBA may be an uphill battle. Drew Timme is barely in the league, and much better in many aspects. 

    Matas is more on the NBA track right now IMO.

    One has to be Steven Adams level player to make it without true offensive ability, and ability to shoot the three and create floor space. Not too many Steven Adams types in the NBA right now IMO

    But just keep developing and see where it takes one.
