Should have made it post spring. January window is just awful timing with bowls, playoffs, end and beginning academic semesters.

January is perfect because the coaches know who will on the team for the next season. Also lines up with academic spring semester.

Punishes the playoff teams.  Like last year you saw playoff teams lose players to the portal mid playoffs

I like it. Coaches will have a better feel for their team after not losing guys after spring practice. Basically signing day 2 is about 90% portal guys anyway.

Portal closes after the quarter finals affecting only 4 teams in the semifinals

Yet players from playoff teams put their name in the portal even though not officially before it opened in years past.

Curious to see if they adjust the date. Jan 2 is not enough time for kids that want to enroll in the spring. Process takes time. Just encourages more tampering, imo

Expect agents/handlers to start working the back channels earlier in the process with more athletes entering the portal with a Do Not Contact status.

That’s enough time, coaching and support staffs will have good idea who will entering the portal prior to Jan 2nd.

While they may have an idea, they can’t start the official process until the portal opens. Some schools start first week of January, which would give them maybe 3-4 days to get a kid fully admitted and cleared.

You have to get admissions, registrar, maybe housing, and other on-campus departments on board to turn it around that quickly (I had to do that in a past life many times when windows were longer). It will be a challenge. I’m sure schools will figure it out, but it will likely be an issue if the date doesn’t change.

Plenty of time to add classes for portal players, Texas has done this a few times for portal additions. Just relax Texas and other schools will make it work. These aren’t “normal “ students transferring.

Portal athletes get extended time to enroll and register because the athletic department gets special exceptions from whatever dean of the particular school they’d be entering for their major.

But will Sark do his no visitors during playoff prep stuff? That’s a bigger question especially with limited time in January and no spring portal.

Recruiting Support staff will handle the visits. The recruiting support will have a great relationship with recruits because they to visit off campus now.. The portal recruits can OV in January and watch actual playoff practice which better than home visits IMO.

You’re missing what I said. If we are playing in the national championship sark specifically doesn’t do OV during the run. He did this last year and the year before.

Yes there be be OVs during the playoff preparation because there’s more time between games.

But that is not how sark has operated.

Sark has shown that he will adapt as the portal rules and timeline change. “Adapt or Die” is the rule 1, rule 2 see rule 1.
