Change the Narrative vs UF

What @Gerry Hamiltonย said this morning on rapid reactions is true. The next 3 weeks will mean nothing. Texas is gonna look like the best team in the country when they beat 3 scrubs by 30 and arch looks like the second coming, theyโ€™ll probably even score every red zone possession they get over the next 3 games. But none of it means anything. October 4 is the most important game on the calendar right now. If Texas can go to the swamp in what will almost certainly be a night game and execute offensively at a higher level than what they did in Columbus, the ship can be righted and perception can change. But if a visit to the swamp is similar to the visit in Ohio, everything about sark is gonna be questioned IMO. Deandre Moore looked pretty pissed off after the game. Hopefully he turns into a leader and steps up. The one bright spot I had about the offense was how good the o line looked except on the last drive. Looked like they whiffed on a free rusher and led to the short pass to endries.ย

Also, and I could be way off base with this but itโ€™s just a thought, is it time to evaluate AJ Milwee? I mean heโ€™s a better QB coach with me, but archโ€™s mechanics looked completely different from last year. I donโ€™t remember ever watching him throw it sidearm and thatโ€™s one thing Quinn was notorious for. Also arch was putting way too much mustard on short routes especially on the 3rd down throw to wingo that couldโ€™ve went for a pretty big gain

I mean, I HOPE they look like the best team in the country over the next three weeks.ย  No doubt the defense will be great, but Arch has some things to work through and until he does, not sure how great they will look.ย  Nothing I saw yesterday worries me about winning the next three home games, but I'm not sure how convincing we will look on offense until Arch works things through.

My expectations around Arch - which means around the offense - have been reset.ย  He's been the one saying it:ย  he hasn't done anything yet.ย  Until he does, he needs to prove he can (not get the benefit of the doubt).ย  Not giving up on him in the slightest - this was a painful growing lesson. Let's see him grow from it (I think he will, but I'm not going to assume he'll be ready for Florida until he shows he is),

Iโ€™m definitely in wait and see mode. I was never one of the ones that publicly called for arch over Quinn and yesterday showed why. I am convinced that sark is overrated and living on past glory as a play caller .

Sarkโ€™s gameplan was as bad as Archโ€™s execution of it. ย

Where was the creativity? ย

Iโ€™m trying to hold on the hope that the playcalling in sec play will be a complete 180 of what we seen yesterday. Sark knew he didnโ€™t have to win yesterday. And the playcalling reflected it.ย

Sark is always holding back plays for the next opponent even in last yearโ€™s final four lol. ย Unless he gets to the SEC title game at 9-3 and wins it, they have to go 10-1 in their next 11 games to make the CFP guaranteed. ย That loss left little margin for error overall, even if it didnโ€™t affect their confidence standings. ย Will a 6-2 conference record be enough to get them back to Atlanta? ย Who knows. ย A 7-1 record get them in guaranteed imo

OU defense is still legit. Iโ€™m not as worried about opposing teams offense as I am their defense.ย

After watching Alabama yesterday I donโ€™t see them getting to Atlanta. I think Georgia and LSU could be the best teams in the SEC. And they donโ€™t play each other this year. Texas has to beat Florida and OU and then I could see the Georgia game being a winner gets to Atlanta type implications.ย

UFโ€™s offense will be a bigger test for this defense than even Ohio State. ย They will be battle tested from two back to back big road games against Miami and LSU. ย Could be too beat up to beat Texas but probably not.

Sark has to prove he can beat OU back to back, theyโ€™re POโ€™ed and want revenge, and when they have a competent QB before I pencil that in as a win. ย Should beat A&M regardless as that game has the biggest effect on recruiting for Texas. ย Iโ€™ll throw Arkansas in there as they are a rival, but Texas should be okay in that matchup.

Iโ€™d put the Florida and OU games together in this discussion. Mateer was slinging it yesterday and Sark is going to have to show that his offense can win in a shootout one of these days.ย

I agree with this sentiment. Texas will be ready for Florida.ย

I see your point but as long as the defense plays like they did yesterday minus the badly timed penalties I donโ€™t see Texas having to get into a shootout. They need to be able to score 24-28 points a game and they should win.ย

What makes you think OU offense could beat us in a shootout. Their oline is not very good.ย

Mateer played Illinois St. yesterday. Letโ€™s see if he can throw for 392 yards against Michigan and Auburn

My point exactly ๐Ÿ’ฏ. People need to understand Ohio State would beat both Florida and OU BY DOUBLE DIGITS PLUS. None of those teams would stand a chance against them period.ย

100%. Still a lot to prove but go watch the highlights. Accuracy is accuracy.ย

I agree, 30/38 for 392 yards is a great game. Iโ€™m looking forward to Michigan / OU this weekend. Thatโ€™ll be their first true benchmark, Michigan prides itself on their DL

Lagway had a much worse QB rating than Arch - in a home game v Long Island

I was thinking along the same lines.ย  Sark didn't want to show all his cards week 1 and then have everyone prepared for them come SEC play.ย ย

Silly question, but how long has Sark been calling plays? There isn't much that Sark has called that teams haven't seen. Sark didn't hold back, the plays were there to be made, Texas just didn't make them. Sark playcalling style isn't all about misdirection, his style is getting to his plays from multiple formations. The motion that we normally see wasn't there, but Sark didn't hold back.ย

Just watched them.ย  He can sling it.ย ย

From what I've seen of neutral people doing break downs, they've all said that guys were open and that the scheme is fine, etc. But Arch has to make the throws. He completely missed wide open guys (Livingstone was open several times for good gains but Arch never saw him) and the guys that were open that he threw to, he had a bunch of really poor throws (first throw of the game and the 3rd down to Wingo, come to mind).

Even the missed TD throw to Livingstone, he had Wingo inside on a slant for a TD. Now yes Livingstone should've caught it but the point still stands. Even Sark himself said in hindsight, he would've loved that 4th down play back at the 1.ย

Overall I'm not worried about the play calling now t hat I've seen the break downs of it from people who know ball better than me. Arch was a concern, but his first road start against a Dย  that was throwing out looks to confuse him and get him off rhythm, well I can give him a break on that. He knows he needs to better and he will be.

He also made some ridiculous throws. Now he just needs to see the field a bit better, trust his OL and be more consistent.ย

I couldn't disagree more.ย  The next three weeks are crucial for this offense and its development going into Florida.ย  For whatever reason, Sark has been more brakes than gas since he got here.ย  Sark has done an amazing job developing and turning this program around, but his offenses have been massively disappointing.ย  Some of that has to do with Sark's reputation as an offensive guru.ย  Hopefully, he will do some serious self assessment and fix the offense, or hire some new blood at OC so he can focus on being the CEO.ย  It may just be that Sark has too much on his plate and his OC duties are taking hit at the expense of his HC duties.ย  Don't get me wrong, I am happy to have Sark.ย  I just hope he is able to figure out why his offenses have sputured so badly since he go to Texas.ย  As the OC at Bama he was great so he has it in him, I just don't know if he has it in him to give up some of the control if he is spread to thin.
