Terry had no skins on the wall when Texas made an emotional hire. He didn’t prove it at Fresno State or UTEP, and many questioned the hire. Part of coaching at Texas is energizing the boosters and fan

We also didn’t get Tre Johnson, Mark and all the transfers with poor NIL so perhaps not that accurate that basketball won’t be competitive.  Pretty sure we can match NIL of Marquette and Miss St.  to

Two words - He gone!  Good luck to him and staff. He is a good guy that will be bought out. Just not the right fit! This made the decision easier, but truly embarrassing after a week off.

Let the argument over replacements begin!!

Let's get this on record.

Terry was given a stacked deck.  He went much farther with a team assembled by Beard than Beard did, but he was never going to get credit for it.

He was given a team that was going to lose guys who had played in 651 D1 games and a pair of recruits who were going to back out of their commitments to go pro in April and left scrambling to fill a roster with 5th year transfers to keep it in the tournament one more year.

He made the tournament again, and won a game in it again, but was faced with another rebuilding project.  He had a great offensive but terrible defensive future NBAer coming in.  He filled the roster with what he could because he didn't get the jack to get a quality big man or ankle breaking pg, the two huge needs.

I neither praise Terry nor bury him.  Had he received better support, then we might have a better team this year, but this team has not performed as well as was possible for the lineup assembled.

We're replacing Terry at the end of the year.  Of that, I am certain.  I will always thank him for his contributions rather than pillory him for what some believe to be his shortfalls.  It isn't everyone who will voluntarily leave a head coaching job to become an assistant at his former employer.

I like Wade and Murray at this point. Pitinonis interesting but I just don’t think he’s his dad or ever will be in a lot of good ways but don’t think he’s a good fit for Texas. It’s unfortunate but this team has never felt cohesive all season yet we keep getting projected in. Hopefully tonight quashed those dreams. We don’t need to make the tourney and a magical run to jumpstart the program. We need someone focused and committed to creating a winning culture, prioritizing improvement, preparation, and execution offensively and defensively.

The younger Pitino recently said of the elder Pitino's now viral rant that it evoked PTSD of what he heard growing up when he didn't make his bed.

I do donate, but I am nowhere near a BMD. When I read that today I couldn’t believe it. Same NIL with a new coach that’s not top line.

I’m busting your balls. I don’t believe Gerry.

I know and I love your post. Hey I have no problem with people saying we need a new coach. If they are going to attack me personally then I will test their basketball knowledge. There was a guy on here tonight saying they need to fix their offense. Tyler simply asked for a suggestion. The response was the offense that scores. That sums it up nicely.

My personal opinion, if we hire a good coach (Sean Miller level) with 3.8M in NIL we will be back to the same discussion in 6/7 years. Basketball is a funny sport since getting to the elite 8/final 4 every 5/6 years is considered good. Texas has more money than every school. Texas can make a consistent winner (of course there will be hiccups).

Just hire a Sean Miller (and up) type coach with 5M NIL… that will win and save money on future buyouts.

Isn’t Terrys buyout, 6/7M? Forward think and add 1M to NIL and you have a coach who will be here for a while.

We were at the game. Team was flat from the beginning. The week off was not our friend. Win out. Make the tourney.

It will be around 5 million or a bit less.

we didn’t have to pay Beards buyout so we should have plenty for Terry and a sitting HC buyout

It’s not like we’re losing by like 5-6 points and finding ourselves on the short end of a few bounces. Our losses are bad and too many blowouts. Disgrace.

I have a hard time believing Terry's buyout is even that high.

But we didn't have to pay Beard's buyout because he was terminated for cause.  Terry won't be.

Auburn, Tennessee, Mississippi, Vandy, and Arky losses were not blowouts.

I think Gerry showed a stat previously where we trailed by 15+ in at least 6 of our SEC games. Now make it 7… out of 14 lol.. done

Auburn/Arky was false hope.. still trailed by 15+ in those games in addition to A&M twice, Florida, Bama.. not good

4.3-4.8 I think. Initial buyout on his 5 year deal was 7.2

Sounds about right, I guess.  7.2 x 3/5 = 4.32.

Really not a bad price because it saves you roughly 6 million on the life of the contract coupled with not having to pay Beards so that money could go to the next coaches buyout.

True. Just don't believe that Texas isn't competitive in NIL or resources for basketball. Plenty of schools without anything close to Texas resources that are better.

Happy to see everyone has finally come around, except @Jordan91. I’m sure he’s still trying to justify keeping RT. It was painfully obvious the day the hire was made that this was a terrible hire. And many of us said so at the time. Oh and the “Texas basketball doesn’t have enough resources to win” argument may be a dumber argument than RT was a good hire argument. So not surprised to see @Jordan91 hopping on that train.

Actually, I think you will find Jordan is of the opinion Terry is done here but never received the full support of the fans, administration, or bmds.  He's not wrong.

Terry is not a world beater D1 head coach.

Terry did not have the full backing that another coach would have received.

Both are true statements, and our program has suffered because BOTH are true statements.

What is "full backing" in this instance? Lacking the top NIL budget in the game doesn't equate to not having proper support. One can quibble about vocabulary to describe offense, but all one needs to do is watch Texas on offense, watch higher level teams, and then one sees the difference clearly. Talent isn't the biggest issue.

after taking Beards team to the Elite 8, Terry fell back to who he is….a career assistant coach. He’s been an utter failure. You’ll won’t see him at a major D1 program after this which tells you all you need to know (Barnes at Tenn, Shaka at Marq and Beard at Ole Miss).

For me, I hope someone gets in Williams ear and tell him that he's not NBA ready. His 3 at shooting al9ne speaks to that. But his inside game won't work at that level.
