This could get interesting

Featured Replies

It would be interesting to see the terms of the contract from April, 2023 to see if they were within the THEN governing NIL regulations of the NCAA.  I’m not concerned about the financial terms as much as if there was anything that encouraged him to return to Ohio State for the 2023 season (which was a surprise to everyone).

Not that anything would ever be pursued by the NCAA enforcement at this point, but the NIL regulations back then were more restrictive on the student athlete (prior to the Tennessee and UVA lawsuits).

Judging by the article, this may simply be a case of getting bad advice from a parent-as-agent.  Harrison, Sr. has a record of doing not so smart things.

I have several thoughts here:

1. What recourse do businesses have against athletes? I can assure you that Fanatics doesn't want to be suing athletes. This does not look good for them.

2. It makes me feel even more certain that the NCAA should have ZERO oversight of NIL. It's a private business and a private matter.

Imagine this being a Texas player and the NCAA trying to retroactively take away a championship from Texas because a player didn't live up to their contractual obligations of an NIL deal.

Reminds me of when Dez Bryant allegedly refused to pay for $250k worth of jewelry.

Unfortunately I can see this happening much more often. A lot of family agents out there that don’t know how to read a contract.
