These are the first rankings I've seen released since the Sorsby situation came to light. Texas is No. 3, behind No. 1 Ohio State and No. 2 Notre Dame:

 

Here's what was written about the Longhorns coming in at No. 3 in the post-spring top 25:

"The Longhorns drop slightly but that’s not an indication of their potential for the upcoming season. The offseason foot surgery for Arch Manning appears to be of little concern other than keeping him from working more closely with a potentially elite receiving group that includes Ryan Wingo and Auburn transfer Cam Coleman among the standouts. Of bigger concern is how the offensive line develops after a sub-par season in 2025. New coordinator Will Muschamp had the spring to start implementing his defensive plan that will take advantage of Colin Simmons, who projects to be among the best pass rushers in the nation."

Notre Dame’s schedule is criminal. The disparity in scheduling is one of the sports biggest problems.

I’d agree. It’s dogshit and we’re more talented and better coached.

All of this is way too early, no one knows who is a top 5 team. 

CJ said on the podcast with Jeff Howe  that 3 seemed a little high to him for Texas ranking, because of the jump from the postseason ranking this year.  I respectfully disagree with this mode of thinking in the modern era of college football.  With the transfer portal and chaos that is college football these days, you have to just throw out most of what happened a year ago aside from main returning  starters, I.e. QB, left tackle, receivers, and reevaluate the whole team post portal.  Many of these teams look nothing like they did at the end of last year.  I think LSU for one is ranked a little low.  They are a whole new team. 

I’d bet at least two of Texas, Ohio State and Georgia are seeded top 5 into the playoff.

Oregon in.  Notre Dame in.  Tech in.  Miami in.   BYU, OU, Ole Miss, Bama, LSU, Michigan, Indiana, USC, some random ACC team, say Virginia are in the mix to round it out.

Just looked up Notre Dame's O/U on the sportsbooks and they're 11.5 everywhere. No margin for error. A two-loss Notre Dame definitely wouldn't deserve to be in the playoff.
