Still waiting for that bad combine bench press to impact Kevin Durant’s career

He’s closing in on MJ for #5 all time in scoring. Depending on his longevity, he has a shot at eventually moving past Kareem. Most likely IMO he will retire between Kareem and Malone at #3. But he’s still going strong, so who knows?

Excellent title! That was such a stupid narrative back then. Of course, it didn’t hurt him in the draft anyway, but seemed like that was all anyone wanted to talk about 😂

Still waiting KD to lead a team to a championship.  The Golden Stay team was leaded by Curry.

“Still waiting”. It’s coming.  It’s coming.  When he’s 50 this metric is going to plague his career.

Key Details of Durant's Finals MVPs:

2017 Finals: Won in 5 games; Durant averaged 35.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.

2018 Finals: Won in 4 games (sweep); Durant averaged 28.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game.

Significance: He became the 6th player in NBA history to win consecutive Finals MVPs.

Thank you Gerry! Some people just can't accept that in today's NBA, it is rare for any superstar to singlehandedly win a championship. Did Kobe's or Shaq's championships not count because they played together? Did Kareem and Magic's titles not count because they played with each other? This whole sentiment that KD joined the Warriors that had Steph and Klay therefore those championships don't count is ridiculous. He was the best player on the court for both of those finals and honestly it wasn't even that close.

There was alot of chatter at the time regarding the first pick. Oden vs Durant.

Just prior to the draft, I met a former NBA player at one of my wife's work events and we had a great debate on how successful Durant would be. He basically argued Durant wasnt strong enough to survive the pounding of the NBA. I kept telling him, it wouldn't matter, Durant was a guard.

Bench press in the NBA combine never really made sense to me lol. These guys have freakishly long wingspans and bench doesn’t translate to the court at all

for what it’s worth, Kawhi Leonard is known to be a strong physical player and only did 3 reps at the combine.

KD won back to back finals MVPs. You can say the Warriors are Curry’s team..always will be. But KD was the best player on the court in both of those finals

Yup, the Bulls didn’t count because they had MJ and Pippen? LeBron only has 1 since the others came on teams with D Wade, Bosh, AD etc. It’s still disappointing that KD didn’t impress with the bench imagine what his career would be if he had thrown up 10-15 reps!! Also, he’s the leading scorer in the Olympics and has how many gold medals now? But still, I’m sure if you ask him his biggest regret is not having better bench numbers. Hopefully someday he’ll see why it’s so important. Until then he’ll just have to be considered as the greatest player of his generation with a select few others like LeBron. Oh well, if only…

One of the best pure scorers the game of basketball has ever seen and he bleeds burnt orange!

Not bad for a guy who couldn’t complete one bench press rep at the combine (like it was ever going to matter)!

It probably affects his jump shot.  I don't think Caitlyn Clark could do one rep on the bench press and look at her.  She can't shoot either.
