Mini update on Hero Kanu

Junior defensive tackle Hero Kanu is one of the key members of the Texas team weighing the decision of whether to return to Texas for a final season of college ball, or head off to the NFL Draft.

OTF exchanged messages with a source very close to Kanu.

"We are in talks right now with all."

That meant Texas, and getting a feeling where the 6-foot-5, 300-pounder could project if he enters the draft.

Kanu walked on Senior Day, but that was more because his family was in Austin from Germany vs. having a decision on leaving.

When asking the source what was the timeline for a decision, there isn't a date locked in.

Kanu posted 31 tackles and two sacks in 2025.

Wisner, Kanu, and McDonald would be my top 3 in no order on players returning who have draft decisions

Let’s go Hero!! Another year and that dude could be a first rounder! If we keep JMcD and get some young guys playing fast and confident our defense could be better than it was this year and we were pretty darn good all things considered!!

Goosby is more important than all of them

Probably cause the feedback from the mods here has been very positive in him returning 🤘🤘🤘🤘

Another full season of tape would help his stock I would think.

Yep, like all players who only have one year starting...
Goosby with another year can be a top 10 pick for example

I usually don’t pay attention to the DL play…. was our line elite this year? Or was there a drop off from the Murphy-Sweat and Broughton-Collins years?

Any update on Hero Kanu can never be mini.

You mean 4 guys that all

went on or before day 2 ? Yeah we didn't match that this year but still had a good DL

How would you know what those lines looked like if you don't pay attention?

because every game the announcers would mention how elite they were and I remember so many 3rd and 4th down stops. I don’t recall hearing and seeing those things this year

Add Endries to the list. I would really like to see what another year of him in our offense would look like.

Nick Townsend and E. Winston have more upside than Endries IMO.

Kanu isn’t some fringe guy hoping a good pro day and a sympathetic scout get him a combine invite. He’s already got the NFL body and the traits teams drool over. The issue isn’t if he’s draftable — it’s how early.

100%

another year of production could elevate him to a top 50 pick (it’s always hard to project the players to the first round unless they are consensus top 10 level player.

Right now the résumé reads: solid production, great build, tape still loading. That’s not a red flag — that’s the exact window where staying another year turns leverage into money.
