We asked OTF subscribers to rank the best Texas Longhorns of the modern era (1992-present) and the results gave us some pretty fascinating takeaways. First and foremost, Vince Young absolutely ran away with the No. 1 spot. Vince received more than 82% of the first place vote, with only one ballot (out of hundreds) not including him in the top three spots. His lowest ranking from anyone who voted for him? No. 4. Ricky Williams was nearly as universal. Ricky appeared on 94.9% of ballots, and 88.1% of those voters had him inside the Top 3. In fact, Vince and Ricky were basically the consensus top two. On 76% ballots, they occupied the No. 1 and No. 2 spot…

Today’s Countdown to Kickoff takes us to No. 23 and there’s a pretty interesting mix of Longhorns who have worn it over the years. Jeff Ward put together one of the best kicking careers in school history, finishing with 206 points while earning First-Team All-America honors in 1986 and three All-SWC selections. Danny Lester was part of Texas’ championship run under Darrell Royal, winning national titles in 1969 and 1970. His interception against No. 2 Arkansas in the 1969 “Game of the Century” helped keep Texas alive in the 15-14 comeback win. Carrington Byndom became a fixture in the secondary, appearing in 38 games with 26 starts, recording five intercept…

A quick welcome to all who are venturing over for the beginning of the On Texas Football online era! I am very excited for the future of the OTF board and what we will bring to the table in terms of content and coverage of the Texas Longhorns. Bobby did a great job of laying out the board rules and expectations. Saturday should be very exciting with over 100 top prospects on campus. Coverage will begin early in the morning as Blake and I will be on campus to bring you live updates as the day progresses. As far as what you can expect from me on OTF: Truthfulness and objectivity when covering Texas football and recruiting. This is not a bakery, you w…

UPDATE 1pm: The first new offer of the day has gone out to Ryan Fodje, a 6-foot-5, 275-pound offensive lineman from Bridgeland HS in the Houston area. ** The morning was quite chilly here in Austin. Recruits and their parents parked well off campus and were shuttled to DKR and the coaches offices. On to the visitor notes: Shadow Creek is well-represented on campus with prospects like Texas LB commit Anthony Williams, 2025 CB Cobey Sellers, and the expected arrival of 2025 WR Jacorey Watson. On the linebacker front, Texas is pursuing two really important DFW area targets. The first is Dallas Skyline LB Elijah Bo Barnes who arrived in the first grou…

According to a source in Tucson, Texas is expected to host Tiaoalli Savea, a defensive tackle from Arizona, on a visit this weekend, possibly as soon as today. Savea, who is 6-foot-4, 305 pounds, entered the transfer portal officially yesterday. From Las Vegas' Desert Pines High School, Savea originally signed with UCLA out of high school before transferring to Arizona. He logged 22 tackles and six tackles for loss in 2023 for an Arizona defense coordinated by current Texas linebackers coach Johnny Nansen. Texas already has seven commitments from the NCAA transfer portal - three receivers, one tight end, one pass rusher, one linebacker and a defensive back.…

Texas was set to host three Mater Dei (CA) prospects this weekend for the Junior Day festivities on Saturday. As of 9:00 p.m. on Friday night, one of those prospects is no longer expected to make the trip to Austin – 2025 LB Nasir Wyatt. 2025 RB Jordon Davison made it to town earlier this evening around 5:00 p.m. and will be a complete participant tomorrow for the junior day fun. Texas RB coach Tashard Choice made the trip out to Mater Dei on Tuesday of this week, furthering the efforts to land the talented back. 2026 LB Shaun Scott is the other Mater Dei prospect expected to attend this weekend. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian wasted no time focusing on receiver Isaiah Bond, the Alabama receiver, when Bond officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Friday. Sarkisian made a beeline to Bond’s Georgia home the very day he entered the portal. The next day, Bond was on an official visit to Austin. And the day following that? Bond decided to become a Longhorn. Bond made 48 catches for 668 yards and four TDs in 2023 for the Crimson Tide. He is known for his elite speed, winning the Georgia state 100- and 200-meter in high school. Bond is the second receiver Sark has identified and recruited from the transfer portal this campaign, following the earlie…

Former Washington cornerback Jabbar Muhammad, a second-team All-Pac 12 selection in 2023, and his family made an official visit to Texas on Wednesday and Thursday. Muhammad, who recorded three interceptions for the national runner-ups this season, is slated to visit Alabama today and Oregon next week. If Muhammad plans on enrolling at Texas, he must make a decision no later than Jan. 30, which is the last day to enroll in classes at Texas for the spring term. Texas is said to have made a favorable impression on the visit and is thought to be the front-runner, though Oregon could make things even more interesting. Of course, Muhammad also has a lot of famili…

Welcome to On Texas Football (or in this instance, OnTexasFootball.com)! We hope you'll become part of the conversation on your favorite team - The Texas Longhorns. As we begin a new era, we have a few rules, rules that we hope allow us all to enjoy the site and enjoy the team we root for. Please follow these: 1. No in-fighting among members. Sure, grown men can disagree. But grown men (or women) don't call each other names. 2. This site and discussion is about the Texas Longhorns. It's not about how one of us is any smarter or dumber than the other, about how one site or other is better than another, etc. 3. Keep in mind that sarcasm is ofte…

One of the best to ever do it has decided to stay in Arizona rather than return to Texas, according to a social media post made by the coach. Duane Akina, one of the architects of Texas' DBU in the 2000s, mulled a return to Texas this off-season in a role that would have made him an analyst and special assistant to head coach Steve Sarkisian. However, Akina was recently offered an on-field role with Arizona subsequent to the hiring of Brent Brennan as new head coach of the Wildcats. Good luck to Coach Akina! View full news

Hook'Em! Alabama portal tight end Amari Niblack has made it official, he will be joining the Texas Longhorns for the 2024 season. Niblack arrived for a visit in Austin early Thursday afternoon and it did not take long for the 6-foot-4, 240-pounder to join the boat and commit to Steve Sarkisian's Texas program. During the 2023 season, Niblack caught 20 passes for 327 yards and four touchdowns, including a 39-yarder against the Longhorns. Sark continues the trend of adding explosive speed via the portal this offseason with Niblack as the most recent example. Replacing Ja'Tavion Sanders will be no easy task, but the Longhorns will now be working with two…

Texas is set to host over 100 top prospects this weekend for the first Junior Day of the calendar year. While there has been plenty of attention in the NCAA Transfer Portal, the Texas staff will begin making strides towards filling out the 2025 puzzle. This list is imperfect and there will be plenty of prospects to arrive on campus that are not listed here, however the compilation of 100 prospects that we have compiled here at On Texas Football make this one of the most attended Junior Day events the Longhorns have had under Steve Sarkisian. Last Update: Thursday at 11:00 p.m. Sitting around 103 names on the list. 2025 Offense RB Jordon Davis…

Sources close to Alabama transfer tight end tell On Texas Football that Alabama tight end Amari Niblack is a serious target for the Longhorns. Niblack visited with Texas tight ends coach Jeff Banks on Wednesday. Texas is a considered a serious threat in Niblack's recruitment. The Longhorns have already lassoed two members of the Crimson Tide from the portal - wide receiver Isaiah Bond and linebacker Kendrick Blackshire. Niblack recorded 20 catches for 327 yards and four TDs in 2023, including a 39-yard touchdown catch against the Longhorns.
